oh oh oh so wanting more info now lol :D
One item that concerned me in that short article: "Other things that the team are currently exploring are often requested items such as Name Changes and Server Transfers." The problem of offering name changes, is that this is a fantasy MMO. Your character has a reputation that he has EARNED... for good or ill. I hope that if they do offer a name-change option, that they will permit /friend and /ignore to keep track of these players.
With DAoC, Mythic was pretty good about alternating between free expansions and purchased expansions. Since LotD was free, I would not expect this to be a free expansion. Mythic's purchased expansions were usually quite extensive (like Shrouded Isles), and sometimes game changing (like Atlantis). I for one have high hopes that this will be exciting, and a lot of fun :)
Not sure I like the sound of yet another 20 renown ranks. It's taken me this long to get Dargron up to 76, and I can't say I'm looking forward to the prospect of having yet another 20 RR's open up ahead of me just when I finally reach RR80 (and probably new, bigger sets of Armour and Scenario weapons just as I finally get my hands on a Sovereign set and Royal Weapons). I really wish these games would stop expanding up and focus more on expanding out. Instead of more Renown Ranks that further the gap between RR40 and RR80, why not more choices and options for spending those renown points (ie, instead of characters getting more powerful, give them more options in what they can do). On the plus side, it does sound as if the game will in fact be expanding customisability in addition to the RR boost, so here's to hoping it's not as bad as it sounds. The Skaven thing sounds vague and intriguing. They've discounted that you will level a Skaven character from level 0 up, but not necessarily discounted that the Skaven will be playable characters. Could be that Skaven might be playable characters that start at Lv40 with only a single new LotD style map to fight over. Could be that Skaven form a 3rd realm of NPC's (imagine the change in the RvR lakes if you didn't just have Destro to worry about, but also random armies of NPC Skaven that try to besiege Keeps and BO's behind you when you abandon their defense). Will be interesting to finally see what Mythic actually have in store.
I still have to read it. Can't do it now, as I'm hungry for Destro blood. But I want to add my two cents: Warhammer Online is part of Eletronic Arts' gaming portfolio. I'm happy to hear they are finding a way to make it as profitable as they want their games to be. And I just hope they don't ruin the game in the process. The alternative to this would be grim. What if EA decided that WAR is not profitable enough, and can't be made to be profitable enough, and so they should shut it down or just leave the game to die? That said, I'm game to buying any expansion they want to sell me without a second thought, just to support the game I learned to love.
The server xfers would be so handy, name changes i can see pro's and con's like what Stoat brought up. As for the extra 20 rr, i can see why they are bringing that in so that the ppl that are already rr80 and got all there gear want to come back instead of going 'oh well got all the gear i want and got my rr, time to find another game' sadly it's somthing that will happen in every mmo for ever imo, they do it to WoW all the time with raids for those hardcore guilds that clear the new content in a month or 2 grear up then stop playing coz there boared. And i am sure they will close the gap a bit from rr40-80 just to make it a bit easyer to get to 100 instead of a 12mth+ grind to try get close. I'm very happy to hear Skaven wont be a playable race, i have said it from beta and still to this day that Skaven CAN"T and SHOULDN'T be a playable race just due to the law, i have been a table top player of fantasy and 40k for well over a decade and i would be upset to see law changed just to make a playable race on a mmo lol. But i totally love the idea that u said Dargron of having a Skaven NPC Wb come and assault a keep, at night and when undefended would SO fit the law and the Skaven legends and would make it loads of fun also. Like having a Warlord or Grey Seer on a screaming bell commanding the npc attack and then having some epic loots drop from them if u can defend and kill the skaven commander. and if destro came to assault the keep while ya defending against the skaven that the skaven turned on Destro as well till the point of moral braking and fleeing as the spineless rats would! LOL sorry for ranting got a bit over excited with the Skaven stuff hahaha Oh well soon see what happens i guess.....
My worrry about another 20 rr is my lvl 40/41 are now going to fighting a lvl 40/90 or 100. What about going to the city ... we have enough trouble fighting 40/80's.. so if we dont have the higher RR we just dont go to the city anymore.. Crap .. We need more details..
Personally, I've never quite understood giving up on a character once you reach RR80 and have all your gear. Granted, there's not exactly anything left to work towards, but if you give up on a character at RR80, it seems to defeat the entire point of getting the character up to that level in the first place. Once you have your RR's and gear, you should be out enjoying terrorising the WAR population and making a name for yourself as a serious threat (or in my case, some semblance of a potential threat instead of just a mild annoyance).
Rather than continuing to add on more levels, DAoC added other training paths to advance in... Master levels (pain in the butt) and Champion Levels (pretty fun to do). The Master levels granted pretty powerful new abilities, but the Champion Levels were small bonus'. One of my favorite rewards for advancing through the Champ levels, was being able to add barding and saddle-bags to your horse (they acted like extra vault slots).
I could use a couple of server transfers. I was playing drunken transfer the other day and moved to of my mid 20 chars to iron fang.
Added this news to the Warhammer News section :)
It will be interesting to see.
I would rather not see rr 100's put in. I'd rather see the game expands horizontally, not vertically as Dargron had earlier commented.
Not playable from lvl 1...but Skaven would be interesting. Perhaps as said above once you have a character of a set level, say 40/40 you can then opt to log in as a Skaven of level equal to 40/40. Then you renown level your Skaven character from that point. Sort of like the Monster Play in LOTRO. I dunno, would be fun for a little bit at least.
