Aion and the Family

Server: Zikel
Race: Asmonian

I feel that the whole "new craze" is getting a wee bit over the top so please allow me to clarify a few things.

1. The Gaiscioch will ONLY be on Zikel, Asmonian side.

2. I WILL NOT be leading weakly raids on Aion at this time.

3. Aion is considered a Vacation spot to our family, a low stress refuge for when Warhammer is driving us nuts.

4. I will only be present in game 1 to 2 days a week on a casual, wherever Juliana feels like playing basis.

This being said there are a few reasons we WILL NOT be going gung-ho on Aion.

1. The game is build around Self, A haven for elitists and lone wolfs

2. Legions can not form alliances (The word alliance is what they call a Warband, ie. 24 People)

3. Legions are limited to 60 characters until they earn 20,000 abyss points which require a great deal of grinding to get there. Upon reaching level 4 the cap is 130 characters which would be 13 people at 10 characters a piece. Being there is no "Alliance" or Union of Legions Even splitting into multiples would just cause a rift in the family.

With these things in consideration, we will use Aion as a secondary title. I will not be building tools for leading Aion raids at this time. Please remember It's taken me a year of free time to build this site for Warhammer, and 5 years of free time building it for DAOC before that. Our first 5 Months on Warhammer we did not have Family Honor Points, or participation logs. It wasn't until January that these were created. For me to redevelop this site for a Legion limited to 130 characters would take me an extreme amount of time and take the play out of the game. It would be a generous statement to say I have put an average of 8 hours a week into this site for the past year. Thats 416 hours of my time spent on this site. Please understand my position on this. Now that being said, IF Aion does fix their issues that prevent a large scale warfamily to exist and flourish as a united front we can consider an evolution of the site to become what it is now. But until then I am not going to give up raid nights and free time to kick this site out for a game that Might succeed but most likely will have it's hardships.

I do hope I do not come off angry, it is not my intent and not the case at all. I just feel it's only fair I put this out on the table now so that I don't get flak for "Ignoring" people's needs. Web sites just simply don't happen over night and I'm currently employed so I can't spend all my time making toys. It took me a year to get an Edit mode on the forum. Just bear with me guys. Your my family and I love you all.

Foghladha aka Ben

I couldn't begin to imagine how much sheer coding makes up this wonderful site. I've dipped my toes into programming(i wasn't too bad at it :P) and even little stuff took hours, not to mention debugging. From that point of view, I completely understand your stance. It is true that Aion does seem more independent, at least until you get much higher in level, and start rift-jumping. I won't be leaving warhammer either, although I may unsub for maybe a month so i can get my fill w/o draining my wallet. Besides, I've got conq, invader, and warlord stuff in my bank, I can't just let it rot there! Any way we go, thanks for putting together so much good stuff for us, Ben. Sláinte!

I don't find it as angry - I find it as realistic. You have done a great deal for the family - more than all others combined as far as I am concerned. I am sorry I haven't been around much for WAR - just got a tad burnt out on it and the PvP which is what I loved so much seem to become less "flavorful". But - i for one appreciate all you have done and don't expect you to do more. thank you.

Foghladha thanks for cooling me down a bit. I got a bit too ravenous and mouth foamy. Really sorry about that. Like a crazed kid in a candy store. hehe :) I agree with Orgoch, I may be gone for a few weeks further to get settled in, but then I'll be back to assist in the mighty WAR. I don't think you've done anything wrong Foghladha, and you do -not- sound angry. Your points are quite rational and well thought out. And this website is KICK @$$!! We all know it. :D I can't not fathom the work that you've put it, it's a masterpiece. Beyond your ingame leadership, this site is what drew me to the Family. Don't worry about trying to make this site Aion friendly with the points and such. All we really need is the chatty forum for which to spew rabbles. You've done a great job with the family Fogladha, and I am sorry all this hype (In which I helped create ><) has stressed you out, you do not deserve that. <3 We Wub New! <3

Not only that, but Warhammer is our home. It's a game that has matured over the last year and will continue to grow in the future. Mythic has put a ton of work into it. I had played WOW since launch and over the years saw guilds break up and people say goodbye for Vanguard, EQ2 and LoTR online only to see them come back a few months later. I actually led a guild at launch of WOW and left it (in very capable hands) to go play Vanguard. I never did go back to those friends because I disappointed so many of them when I stepped down and left. Hard lesson learned - friends matter more than the medium you play. Having said that I plan on sticking with Ben and trying to follow Don off cliffs wherever they play. Thier hard work took a mediocre game and made it a ton of fun, and they never closed the door on my face over the course of this year...people like that are rare :) I will play Aion some nights because I need the distraction and quite honestly there's going to be days I just want to be alone and grind the same thing over and over. Aion is the game for that - fo sho.

This site is the best guild site I have ever seen and I can't imagine the work that went into it. Heck I think the dev on this site beats some, ok a lot, of the stuff on my work site and that IS their job. I intend to stay around War for a while, especially for Tue/Thur raid but at least Aion will give me the action I am looking for on Friday nights and Saturday mornings when WAR just seems to be a barren wasteland.

Thanks for the clarification, Ben. I was wondering about this just a few days ago. I know you only play WAR on certain days. If we add Aion nights regularly on the table, with you on the helm, both games might get hurt. And I don't want that to happen. Especially on WAR's end since the guild's reputation, as well as your reputation, in game is growing. I know you worked hard for it, you've invested both time and money on this site and the vent for WAR, and never asked us for anything in return. You've been an exceptional guild leader to us all. It would be selfish of us (and unfair to Julianna) if we asked you for more. As for me, however, I will be canceling my WAR account and just play Aion for the entire month. I will be back on WAR late October and decide whether to keep Aion or not.
