It is with a heavy heart that I report to you that Rhynor has moved to the next plane of existence. She battled cancer for several years before it finally overcame her.

Many of you will remember her from our second visit to Rift where she quickly became a top choice for Eldership. On February 17th 2017 she joined the eldership team officially after helping me proofread and maintain the RIFT community for more than a year. She spent most of her time helping others and helping me prepare for the Telara Saga. She additionally joined us in Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online and was a Patreon of our community since we launched it.

She followed our livestreams and even got me to wear an adult diaper on my head during a livestream for Colon Cancer Awareness month this past March. I will be setting up a memorial for her in Guild Wars 2 for next Monday (July 13th) at 6PM PT instead of my traditional WvW event.

Come share your stories in discord with us as we remember a truly great Woman of Gaiscioch. She will be missed dearly. Please feel free to leave your comments, stories and thoughts below.

My best memories were of Rhynor trying to help me in Rift. She would keep an eye on my in Fog's events. I found her on facebook through all her guinea pig pictures and came to know her better while she was going through all of her treatment. Being a cancer survivor myself, we became bonded together and chatted a lot on messenger. One thing she said that made me laugh during a conversation was: "Here's your random fact for the day: Wheelchair vacuuming is the best thing ever! You can speed around without feeling like your spine has been severed in the process."  She had a great but quirky sense of humor. I will miss our chats but she is with her mom now in no pain and I'm sure raising a ruckus in Heaven!

Remembering Rhynor: A Remarkable Loving & Compassionate Woman

Through all my years in the online multiplayer scene, I have only encountered a handful of truly remarkable souls. A person who literally changes other people just by being a part of their lives. A person who places others before themselves by nature, not by practice. Who radiates kindness and compassion and finds joy in helping others. Jo was this type of person. We knew her as Rhynor and first met in a game called RIFT in 2016.

She and I spent countless hours conversing as we collected things for giveaways for the community. She spent a lot of her time in-game helping others and required no payment for her time and kindness. She did this because that's who she was. A kind, helpful soul. I brought her to our community's Eldership team as she was already doing the things elders we're trained to do. She was the perfect example for all of us to aspire to.

Now when you think, online game community, it might be easy to disregard it. However, this community serves 8,600+ people that span 64 nations. We come from all walks of life, all nationalities, all genders and religious backgrounds. Jo cared for all of them without hesitation.

She never once asked for anything for herself. It's what inspired me to host a charity event in her honor in March benefiting the CCA. Even in her darkest hours she tuned into the Livestream, popped off some jokes and had some laughs. She even had the nursing staff watching. She was all about community.

One of her last messages to me was "Thank you Fog ? That's actually all I care about these days. That someone remembers me. That's enough." We will miss her dearly. She will always have a place in our hearts and minds.

My grandmother once said "In the end, it's not what we have that matters, it's what we leave behind that speaks of our legend." Jo left a lasting impression on all of us. Her devotion towards kindness changed us all for the better. Moving forward I know we are all better people for having Jo in our lives. It's remarkable to think that in just 4 years of knowing her virtually she could leave such a profound mark on our lives. I am confident that her Legend will be remembered and endure the test of time. She will always be remembered for her compassion and kindness.

I only recently joined the community after Jo's passing. I find myself surrounded by beautiful people with wonderful memories of Jo and wanted to share a couple of my own here for you all to read.

I first met Jo in January of 2017 when we were roomies in hospital. I am a shy, nervous person by nature but she immediately pulled me out of my shell and developed a friendship that would last. The nurses said we made the ward a brighter place with our laughter and shenanigans. One of our shenanigans being these extendable skeleton hand back scratchers we bought from the gift store. We used them to open and close curtains, move IV lines, pass snacks back and forth, and just cause chaos. This wasn't the last time we were roommates, our hospital visits coincided again and they moved some patients around so we could be together, sick of our asking but also wanting to see Jo smile after being stuck in the hospital for 4 months straight.

One more memory before this gets too long and the final memory I have of seeing Jo. Back in January before COVID prevented me from being able to go over again, I was visiting. She was sitting in her wheelchair and I was all comfy on her hospital bed. She had it pushed sideways up against the wall of her room. Now... if you know hospital beds, you might know that the newer ones have a gap in the center of the rails. I wanted to lean back against the wall but didn't notice how far away it was from the wall and slid right down the gap, my knees up around my ears. Jo was laughing so hard that she was bent over in her wheelchair. She grabbed one of her crutches to reach out and pull me out because I was stuck. Sadly... this was not the only time that happened during my visit and she laughed just as hard the second time.

I never got to game with Jo, but we sure talked about it enough. Discussing games, mechanics, lore, and the people she loved, this community. I could tell how much she loved and missed you all, always wishing she could be online and frustrated that her hands didn't work the same anymore to allow it.

I'm going to forever miss Jo and the light that she bought into my life. Thanks for welcoming me into this community and remembering her in such a great way.
