As I am the first to post in this topic I was wondering if there are any roleplayers in the Gaiscioch community? I do a little bit of light roleplaying myself, but would be willing to do more if the interest were there.

There are several that enjoy roleplay. Only reason this forum is empty is because I just launched it a few days ago ;). You'll see it fill up here in a couple weeks :).
Now my wheels are turning as to the 'couple of weeks'' comment....does Fog know something the rest of us don't? Lol, j/k. I love roleplaying in mmos and once the game gets going and I refresh myself of the lore involves in GW, I'm sure you can expect some activity.
I'm a light role-player in MMO's too. If the people I'm running with RP then I will too. That being said I usually don't after trying to play on a WoW RP server *shudder* (Druid Furries). On a side note I'd love for Fog to know something he isn't sharing like he got the whole guild into the full time beta because, you know, he and we are that cool. ;)
I consider myself a role-player, but it's been years since I've done any. Every character I make is built with the intention of role-playing, but something intangible has to click for me to get into it. It hasn't happened in rift, GW2? Maybe.
I'm also not much of a forum rp'er. I hate writing. Hopefully this section flourishes and I end up doing it anyways :p

My role-play style varies with the character - my Main is heavy with an involved back story, my dubVdub character will be light if any, and my crafters usually light, but there have been exceptions. I am very excited about the potential I see in GW2 for role-play. My favorite form of RP is RP questing / exploring, "tavern" RP is so been-there-done-that that I no longer seek it out, and I am also not a forum RP'er. I find forum RP (at least the "Open" threads) tends to move along much faster than I have the opportunity to participate, and gets very disjointed very fast.
I have a hard time coming up with an appropriate back story, so I usually stick with one toon for rp. But that being said I spent all Saturaday night rping. Was fun!
Yes, I am not much of a forum RP'er and like Bognar mentioned, I also create characters with the intention to RP them. If I RP them or not just depends if I can breath life into them and flesh them out. I am hoping GW2 will have a good RP environment.
ill prolly rp abit too allthough im not going to be too hardcore in it but from time to time sure its fun
I plan on working on pulling some lore stuff together to help people know the background which even non-RPers could find interest in. From what I've seen of GW1, reading books, and what little I have found on the web so far, is pretty cool in how they pull it right along into GW2. If you want a link to GW1, just check out the gravestones in GW2. Anyway, among everything else I try to do with games, life, writing, etc, I plan on trying to get my butt in gear with lore info to help people out to whatever level they want. After all, I don't have a job so I can make this one of my jobs. Just another reason for hubby to say, "You messing with game stuff still!" Hehe!
For those of you who might have missed it. I hold a role play 101 course weekly. Its a great place to come out and learn the basics along with meeting others in the guild who do role play. All levels and role play style players are welcome to attend and join in.
A nice idea, Thoel, but I don't play Rift. *grins* Will you be doing something similar in GW2?
I hope Thoel will be playing GW2. I love RP'ing with him and he is very good at it!
Yes, in fact I do plan on playing GW2 along with playing Rift. I had a bit of trouble with my key so I'm not currently in the Beta as planned. Sadly. I have big plans for the Rift guild in the future for role play venues to get people out and be able to practice role playing in a non judgemental environment. Wether it be purchasing a wedding instance and bringing people in for a "Party" or finding a isolated local that all levels can be flagged to and have perhaps a social gathering/role play BBQ. Not many know this but I am a story teller as well although my grammer is a bit iffy at best. I would like to have campfire lore tellings so that those of you who wish to learn about our heros in Rift and enemies can come and listen to a tale or two. So many ideas, so little time. I will be holding a meeting again this Sunday and 6pm server time to brush over the basics and show a few examples of in game speach types and the to do this and dont do that of role play. Basics as I've said. Q&A time etc. RustedCrown thank you for your kind words. We have indeed spun a tale or two and I definately hope to expose the community to my first love in role play which is story telling. All be it time consuming I feel it is very rich in detail and much more enjoyable than live role play. Forgive me for getting excited and blasting your post with my ideas. I didnt mean to take the light away from your specific topic but couldnt help sharing? -hugs tight- Don
I"m actually an active roleplayer. when I find myself a good RP partner or partners. I enjoy taking on the persona of my character even if there's nobody else about to RP with.
@Thoel. I am very pleased to hear that you will also be playing GW2. I love the storytelling aspect of RP. I find that it was alot easier for me to flesh out my character. Unfortunately my sub for Rift has ended and the hubby and I will be moving to Gw2. I like the lore a little better especially when it comes to the Sylvari and other humanoid races. As far as the storytelling, would you be up to doing some on the Rift RP forum? It seems it might be a pretty good format for story telling. Totally up to you. HEY I could even break out Devina! Oh By the way Thoel Devina was a member of this guild before following a friend to Shadefallen to help start an RP guild that never made it. That is when I joined the Blades of Silver and the rest as you know is history. Let me know about the possible forum story telling on the Rift side. hugs Thoels pixels Barbara
I've been starved of RP for quite a bit, so I can't wait to jump into my Charr and act as a Charr would act.
The more I look at this and well I've only made a link in another post to help direct you quicker to GW2 lore on the wiki, I'm probably going to use the blog/story setup Fog already has on this site more once I get playing GW2 in order to share my toons' adventures and what not.
That sounds like a good idea about using the blog/story setup that is already in place. I will move my story to there.

IF Thoel does a sort of "RP training" in GW2, I'm there in a heart beat, especially if it's a common thing say every Wednesday (or fill in day of the week here) night event. I did some very limited RP'in in Warhammer and loved it (got really carried away as a Greenskin Orc), but I'd love to join you guys as a "Greenhorn."
I am hoping Thoel does some RP'ing in Gw2 because I am really loving this game. Thoel is a great teacher and a friend and I hope to hug his pixels...err I mean RP as well as play with him in GW2.
I have been a role player since Ultima Online. I was in the Royal Knights of Brittania guild for any of you oldies out there that might now of Ultima and RP guilds. If not, suffice to say, I would like to do some more role play in game, and GW2 looks like it will be a rich RP atmosphere. See you all in game! Beta is loading, and I wanna play!
I made it to one of Thoel's classes on Rift before deciding I had to kill it. He is a great teacher. I'm not as great of a teacher, but I did link the wiki lore link in another post in roleplay here for people to dig through. TOO much input! LOL! I'll definitely be RPing in GW2 and if Thoel does classes, I'll be there. I know I'm supposed to help with the RP side of our house since I've RPd a long time in my life. So hopefully I can do that and find my nitch with the RP crew. =D
I also like roleplaying, sometimes it is hard to get into character. A good background story of your character will help a lot. I take lots of time in my story and it seems to help me bring the character to life
I love RPing in MMOs, so count me in. GW2 in particular has some fantastic races and possibilities for characters, so I'm very excited.
I would give it a try, but im not good at it. I tried it for awhile before I chickened out. Thinking up a full character was too over my head, so what I did was I rp'd the grumpy underapreciated janitor/wait help at the pub. I would always be grumbling to myself about the mess the adventurers leave behind. I'd yell at customers for not drawing down their weapons at the door. I'd always be grumbling about being under-appreciated, and how poor the tips were. (even though folks were tipping me like crazy O.O) It was really fun, and other folks seemed to appreciate the atmosphere it added, but since i don't know how to "really" rp,I'd freeze up and draw a blank whenever someone would start up a conversation with me :( I'd consider it again, but I do get stage fright alot :/
If there is going to be an active RP group in GW2, Jar and I would love to be a part of it. (hehe wait till Jar reads that) But seriously, I feel like GW2 would be a great game to RP in. Is there already an RP leader of Gaiscioch?
I enjoy RPing, sometimes. I used to do quite a bit of RP during vanilla WoW, my priest used to make a decent living marrying couples, and I liked participating in ongoing storylines. I miss that sometimes. I relate to the stage fright though. I have a hard time getting into a completely different character, so I tend to RP characters with a similar personality as my RL personality, and I usually prefer to stay in the background - Need a bartender or some other support character or cannon fodder? I can do that! :)
I totally understand Moxie about the stage fright part. I think if there is a Leader, someone who knows the Lore and has created a base story that we all can mesh into, would be great fun. I have played D&D (loooooooooooooooong time ago) with the dice, chacter sheets and the figurines so this is what I am basing my thoughts on, that if we had a "DM" (dungeon master/leader), if you will, for GW2 that had a base story that would lead us around the world on adventures, the world becomes our tabletop map, the toons on the screen become the figurines and our spells and skills become the dice. My RP characters are basically like myself. I think it is easier to play that way. But I am not opposed to trying something different. I have been in RP guilds where there was no leader and it ended up just being a lot of people standing around, feeling awkward. That is when standing in the backround sounds good because I never liked being the center of attention. I think WoW was a great place to RP. There were so many places to go into, to go inside building and being able to sit, how cool was that. Ironforge, you could basically go into a house and call it your own, downstairs, upstairs, out on the balcony. The taverns were great places to hold meetings and social events...Ah the memories. lol Anyway, I am looking forward to what Gaiscioch's RP is all about.
I hear ya Desrie! In WoW, my old guild used to do RP based in dungeons & elite mob areas, so we'd all have something to "do" while RPing and we weren't just standing around being awkward or talking about the weather. Adventure-based RP, I guess. Plus you can actually do some character development on the fly while adventuring - epic stories get written as you go. :) Another time we came up with a storyline where two characters would marry, & we invited the server to come out & watch. All roses and happiness, right? However, unbeknownst to everyone else, during the ceremony the female would be kidnapped by a mystery villain, whisked away to an undisclosed location, & it was up to the groom & all of the guests to find her before a certain amount of time lapsed - if we missed it, that character would die. Well, we missed it & she did die, which later led to a trial with the guests as witnesses and a bunch of other shenanigans. But that was also a really amazingly fun RP scenario, kind of like murder mystery theatre. :) I agree, WoW was great for RP - but tbh, I think GW2 could be even better. The cities are amazing and so full of detail. There's tons of potential "hot spots" for RP... the inns, the gardens, the mausoleums, the carnival, etc. Rooms are uniquely decorated and doors actually open & shut on command. The cities really are immersive & full of life, and I'm excited about the possibilities there.
I agree with you, I think GW2 would be an amazting place to RP. I love that story of the kidnapping and trial. That is exactly what I am looking for in an RP experience. =)
I think the RP can be great in GW2. I am already trying to come up with back stories for the different races that I want to play. I also just finished reading the two guild wars books that are out. I didn't play the first game so the books were a great way to be introduced to the lore. I also spend time on some of the GW2 roleplayers websites and wiki to absorb more lore info about the game. I cant wait for launch.
Hello again!
Thank you for your kind words Barb. I truly appreciate your support. As far as a designated role play leader in the guild? That would have to be posed to Fogh. Me? I'm just a friend who has a passion for role play and have been doing this for well over ten years. If you want to count D&D days probably twenty or so. I havent held my RP 101 lately because I've been on a mission to get that secret hideaway for our role play BBQ I plan to hold. Problem was that I needed a Magic ticket and finally got one! SO with that said, I will be holding a BBQ soon once I hash out the details. I'd like to have some games. The house is private and not many in game have access so new rprs can come and spread thier wings with little worry of critique. There is a pond to swim or fish in. Possibly a timed fishing competition along with a game of soccer and maybe a game of Rift trivia. If anyone would like to aid me with this rather large venture I'd much appreciate the help. Keep a eye out on the calendar! I will be holding this event soon as well as yet another rp 101 which will most likely be held at the same location so people can openly talk and ask questions.
Hope to see you all soon -grins-
Don

Hi Thoel, the BBQ event sounds fun. Is that being held in the game of Rift?
(**also, where can I look at your post RP 101?**)

I like doing a tiny bit of RP sometimes. Usually, what I do is write up character backgrounds, and I can frequently be in character while I am playing (for instance, if I'm a Charr, I try to talk like a Charr). But I don't force it, and I don't typically generate scenarios. I am just roleplaying while I'm playing. I was planning to put a backstory of my main on here, but wasn't sure this is the right time.
Hello Desrie,
You will see it listed on the guild events calendar. I havent posted one for this week. I will most likely have one next sunday at 6pm st. My usual time. I'm considering doing a write up on the forums. Sort of a guide for those too shy to come to the meetings. Please feel free to contact me via in game mail with questions or to meet up for private lessons / guidance. I've already tudored two in the guild and enjoy aiding people. Feel free to whisper me as well. This goes for anyone who would like to contact me. As I've said. Role play is my passion and I'm always willing to get people started.

I've never role played before but would love to check it out and see if it's for me! Is it all via text or is the role playing also in ventrillo? Myk
Hello Mykhayla, Usually you will find people participating in live in game role play when it comes to MMO games. But there are many styles of role play beside MMO role play server style. Message boards, board games, meeting in person and playing out live role play etc. Perhaps I'm in the dark but I have yet to run across active ventrillo role players. Not to say that can't happen. I'm sure it could. I myself prefer a in party story telling type scenerio. I can spend HOURS spinning tales with someone this way and I think a few of you have run across me standing around with someone doing just that. I'm not sure if this answered your question clearly or not. Its very late right now and I'm probably not doing the best job explaining it to you. If you have any questions please feel free to email me via in game mail or through this guild website. You may mail me also at Kevtirift@yahoo.com. Anyone is free to do this btw. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Don
I started out RPing in MMOs and though rusty would love to get back into it.
Love to get back into rp only problem is im planning a Sylvari ranger and still not sure if im exited or horrified there is so much unexplored teritory How to Sylvari feel about wood work? Does a sentient plant find a wooden table offensive. A Syvari walks into a Bar....OMG thats my grandad. The evil smurfs v's the Sylvari thing. Half house plant half ranger its going to be intersting.
I found myself making RP decisions on accident in GW2! I played a Sylvari Thief and I played through to kill Bersilak (*sp?). Plus I didn't want to kill the non-aggressive creatures because "All things have a right to grow." I think I could get into RP on Guild Wars 2 pretty easily.
Their homes and things are made of other plants. Dead or not. I don't think they'd care too much about a wooden table. But if they follow the teachings of Venturi like they should, then they'd have enormous disrespect for those that needlessly killed. They're also very curious. A good place to start in Guild Wars backstory is the books. Sylvari might be the easiest on backstory as you're born when you start the game... There literally isn't much backstory to fill.
I will be roleplaying in GW2, you can count on that :)
I think the Sylvari would be an interesting character to RP for beginers also. Since they are so new to the world like Pox said, there wouldn't be much of a back story. Also they have a basic knowledge of the world (from the Dream) but yet to have experienced it. Everything will be new to them so they might not know how to act in certain social situtaions (this is right up my alley for RP). They seem to say whatever is on their mind no matter how off the wall or wierd it may seem (again ME). Plus If you wanted to play a more darker Sylvar you could RP one from the Nightmare Court (those who rejected the Venturi tablet teachings). I think this game has alot of RP potential and I can't wait.

My first MMO (EQ1 in 2000), I was heavy RP, to the point that my first level 20 character came after a full year of playing. I've generally been into roleplay, except there's some games that just don't inspire me. For example, chess. Never really thought of myself as a rook or a bishop, they're just pieces to move about. Rift for me has been a lot more like chess than I'd like. So I still have no idea who Mulch/Aimy/Purpyl are in Telara, or who their 8 souls are. One thing that inspires me about Tyria is the characters feel more like characters I could care about. Mind you, I've loved my time in Rift -- it plays so much better than so many other games, and the people have been grand. But I never see the toons as actual characters, just computer avatars. We'll see how it goes. To me, RP is really hard to fake it if I'm not feeling it. I'm hopeful to feel immersed and inspired.
Hey, newbie to the guild here. Just figured I'd toss my name into the pot. While I'm not the sort of person who is always in character whenever I'm logged in, I do find RP to be one of the most enjoyable parts of these games. Anyway, glad to see there are others interested around here.
I would love to give it a go. Any chance someone would make an RP 101 night or even a beginners guide for those of us that are a little intimidated jumping right in?
An RP 101 would be super. I have never rped in an MMO, though I have been doing it in pen and paper games for years. Would love to give this a try.
Most of the RPing I do is text-based one-on-one over an instant messenger program or forum-based with several people on one topic. I've tried some in-game RPing but it just seems so... lacking. You can't describe things in as much detail, and it's harder to flesh out your character in a restrictive system... I dunno, guess I've just been on IM Rps too long.
Okay, here's the issue I've had with trying to figure out when to put something together. I am nearly absent most days after 3pm pacific. Now and then I pop on, but it has been once in the past two weeks. If I do something like this it will be NA afternoonish. My background: RP'd online since chat days of AOL with various characters in free form including becoming an RDI for the Red Dragon Inn at one point. This included message board group RP as well as character journaling Live action RP - since 1993 Table top - since 1980 (Woah, Nellie! Just dated myself!) Now the thing that I find hard about doing it in MMOs is that I want to be playing the game. ::chuckles:: Last time I was more serious about RP was in Warhammer, as for Rift, just could not get into RP there. So going to find a spot that is quiet enough (scratches head though has ideas) and see if maybe a Sunday afternoon slot will work. I know a weekday slot won't for most NA prime timers.
