I am curious on how we gain ranks in the guild as we play GW2. I was very active in the first 4+ months of Rift but failed to claim many accomplishments/events on the website. I plan on doing a better job of that in GW2. How do we go about that now?

The process will be the same. Ben (Fog) just doesn't have it all coded yet. As I understand the situation, some of it is that the devs haven't (yet) given anyone the "hooks" to be able to gather information automatically from the game server, and the rest is just the time to get it all done. As someone who has professionally coded highly interactive sites like this, I gotta say I think Ben is doing an unbelievable job in getting it all done and set up expeditiously. I feel certain he'll have it finished up in a few days. And even if not, he deserves some slack for how far he has brought us this quickly. :)
although the marketplace stuff is already in place, so one way to gain ranks will be using the marketplace to fill orders. Speaking as a crafter (and a gatherer of course) I have no problem with the idea of my every wish being instantly granted by a Family member :-)
The short answer to your question: participate, AND claim your participation here on the website. Most commonly new members gain participation credits by one of these ways: - Participate in an event lead by someone in the guild, and claim participation on the website - Fill orders in the Gaiscioch Marketplace (here's our marketplace for GW2) if you are a crafter or gatherer Once you've increased your rank you'll be able to participate in new ways, but these are tied to the kinds of participation you've already done. For example, in order to lead "claimable" events you'll need to participate in some first. Likewise to gain Discovery participation by entering new recipes into the Marketplace, you'll need to raise your Artisan rank by filling orders in the Marketplace. And that pretty much sums up the Gaiscioch approach to guild ranks: learn the system first by participating, then lead others.
I participated a lot in Rift, mainly in raids,I just never claimed it, didn't realize the reason for it. Now I understand and understand it is probably a huge task for some to integrate a system like that. Take your time Fog, no rush, I was just curious on how it will be done.
Lakshmi, do you want us to keep track of what we do preceding the contributions being enabled on the website? I can't imagine how much work Fog puts into this, so please don't take this as impatient but last night I heard a few people ask about how to claim participation in Elth's Tapaigh an OÃche Night time Orb Run on the 26th. I was wondering the same so figured I would ask! :D
as for new members.. REMEMBER the game is only 3 days in. and thats the headstart. keep in mind events won't start right off the back... but they will come. as well as the orders for crafting. and once it starts its just gonna snowball.
a for-instance -- I played all day in a group with guildies. In Rift, for that many hours we'd have a bunch of things to claim. With the current set of GW2 leadership choices, if we'd been in WvW, we'd have a lot of things to claim. But if we pve'd, there's no options, yet. I did place a marketplace order for more bag space and it was filled and delivered super quick. <3
As the only Treubh so far in this thread, I entirely understand. Hence imploring a simple inquiry not be taken as impatience, merely curiosity. I've been contributing as much as I can past 2 days in coin and mats for our market orders. None of which will help my rank for several rankings, but I do it for the family's gain as a whole rather than my own. All I have right now is participation which I do regardless. Patience is easy when we're having fun! :D

The leadership / fellowship system is in place guys. I even posted a guide for claiming leadership in gw2 in the gw2 guides section of the forums. Its been functional since bw3.
And that includes pve objectives.
Oops! My bad! Just ignore me... :o Last I had checked (before writing the above) there was nothing listed, so I assumed it was unfinished. You know what they say about assuming. =\
