Discord: Playing status works for Black Desert

In another thread, I saw some posts about difficulties with Friend list and problems with finding people.

I'm not sure if everyone is aware, but Discord is a new VOIP app that we're trying out.  (I'd have never known if Don hadn't mentioned it, tbh...)  Discord has a link next to Gamevox on the GSCH.info home page and it's actually quite nice, especially because of the text wall features as well as displaying what games people are playing.

It has problems with Blade and Soul, but I've tested it for many other games, and it detects and displays them, very well.  So give it a shot, you don't actually have to log into the voice server (it doesn't by default, but once you download the app, you will see what I mean) so if you want to stay connected, but not be on voice... it's a very nice option to Gamevox.

With the beta version you can set your game to anything you want.

I was talking with their Support peeps about the BnS issue, they said "Reading through your troubleshooting steps, it does seem that there might be a gap in our detection process with B&S. For the time being, keep using your reselect method to display the playing status, and we'll look into the bug on our end."

Sounds like the "set your game" might be their workaround for games that hide/prevent their .exe from being hooked?  Dunno, I'll have to find it and download it, to see.  BnS runs in a fullscreen pseudo-windowed mode and the .exe is hidden (kinda like Aion was), so the only way to hook onto it with something like OBS, is to look for the Window rather than the process.

Regardless, it's still a cool feature that mostly works for everything else that I've tried.  Kind of like a cross between Gamevox and Raptr.

Discord is not beta. It's full release. It's been out awhile. On their website you can download the beta versions of the software before their released for QA purposes. It's nice cause you get to play with a lot of features before it rolls out.

Hm, I could have sworn that I read something that said it was in Alpha.  Maybe it was an old page or something, that I stumbled across.  Don told me about it last week, when you used it for the Warhammer SA, so I googled for it since he didn't have a link handy.  I guess I saw an old press release or something.  Here I thought it was really nicely featured for an Alpha app, LOL.

Regardless, I really like it.  I've not used the voice portion, yet, but I have to say, that it's something that I will probably be using a lot more than Gamevox.

I hated it at first, because I thought it was just a browser app and I wasn't able to set my PTT to my usual Mouse4 button.  Then I noticed the link to download the desktop app and when I did that, I became quite happy with it.

edit:  I just discovered, that there's a Download Apps link below our name, on the left side of the bottom.  Click that, it opens a page to download other platforms and also has a link to their public test build.

Hm, not seeing anything different with the Games list in the PBT client.  It looks the same as what they have in the release and I still have to use my "workaround" to get Blade and Soul to display.

They're aware of the bug, but I was mentioning it for anyone else who had problems getting a game to show.

Actually, this PBT build is working better, once I realized it wasn't running with elevated privileges.

I don't think this feature works if you are running Discord on a different computer than the game. I got some crazy applications I could use and make people go "huh" though. ;)
