Yes, no one was at either place when the fire started in the resturant's kitchen. People who happened to be driving by called 911 to report smoke billowing out of the roof once the lack of emergency vehicles was noticed. Because the building was overbuilt (16 inch concrete walls and triple pane, thermal windows) the whole building was not incinerated. In fact, the fire crews had it out in less than 15 minutes. The fire marshall said the fire had mostly burned itself out and was only reignited when they broke in to investigate the smoke.
The downside is that all that smoldering stuff produced thick oily smoke that has totally coated our store and all of its contents. Lots of cleaning and rehabbing will need to be done so we can reopen. Tomorrow I hope protective inspection will be by to approve my request for restration of power and then we have to get the drop ceiling ripped out, and the space between the floors wiped down. then the restoration crew can begin on the other stuff that needs doing.
Keep your fingers crossed for us that it all goes well.
