Since this is a situation that has lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings, I would like to make an /as chat protocol request.

When someone says, "does anyone want Item-X" in alliance chat, the statement implies that it's a free-bee gift type of offer (very exciting - everybody loves to get free goodies). But, the whole moment is ruined when its followed by a "what will you give me for it" /tell.

If someone wants to sell things within the alliance, please clearly phrase your message like "selling Item-X" or "special price for alliance members on Item-X"... Its not a big change, but it makes a huge difference.

Any thoughts?

I agree. Within an alliance (at least ours) I think a "does anyone want" statement should imply that it is someone looking to help out their fellow alliance members. If you're selling something, say so, or put it on the AH.

/signed That is in somewhat poor taste, and yes simply stating intentions saves on ackwardness.

I'm a bit surprised anyone would use our alliance chat to sell things for a profit. If it's to be allowed at all, then it should be done in a clear format as Stoat is suggesting. /signed

My personal philosophy is I NEVER sell to guildies (which also includes alliance). If you see me offer anything it's yours no strings attached. If I want to make a profit I'll put in on the AH. (I've even been known to buy other guildies stuff just so that they can get a profit.) The only exception is for crafting if I don't have the mats I'll ask you to provide what's needed to make it for you. But even then I don't charge shipping and handling fees either :) Just my two cents and /signed.

Within Shadows Deep we dont sell goods to each other. We give it away and in the end it all works out. When I GIVE Jhy 50 Forgotten Soldier Medallions then the next day there is a +24 str tali in the guild vault I know its free for my takeing... I believe to sell something in alliance chat is disrespectful. If you are looking to make a profit put it up on the AH, and then let alliance know its there and to check it out so as if they want it then they will look.
