Hello all!

So I'm seeing a lot of different kinds of livestreams on Gaiscioch. It would be great, if our beloved livestreamers could tell what software they are using and if they have maybe separate computer or using some hardware. And of course if some plugins are used in software. Also what kind of settings you use and have best results and of course most important is what are computer specs.

It would be nice to stream time to time if my computer could handle. I have tested few software, but most of the time either quality is bad or playback is sluggish.

Then there is the other part, video capturing. Similar scenarios as in livestream would be nice to read. I have tested OBS for capturing and also Dxtory, but I'm not sure if those are the best quality wise or feature wise.

Funny that you should mention this!  I am working on a full article for the next Gaiscioch magazine about live streaming.  I go over computer specs, software, lighting, video and more!

But for some quick info, I personally use OBS for my stream for both camera and desktop streaming.  My computer is an i5 3.5GHz, 16GB ram, and a GeForce 750 ti video card.  I built my item green screen, use inexpensive lights, and have OBS do the green screen keying to get rid of my background.  One thing I can say is don't skimp on your ram.  I was running into issues where OBS would crash because it was competing with my game for the ram.

My article will go a lot deeper into the minutia, but I hope this is a good start!

I can't speak on the streaming part, as I have yet to get into that, but if those are the specs that Smitty has for his computer, then mine should be fine for the most part (I also have an i5, gtx 960 4gb, though my ram is only 8, so I may need to upgrade that if ever I attempt to get into streaming).

As for video capture, I use Nvidia's Shadowplay, which works wonderfully. You would need a Nvidia graphics card (http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience/system-requirements displays a list of cards it requires). It also has streaming capabilities, though not sure how good that is. I hear when using the streaming option that there is a Nvidia watermark on the screen, so there's that negative aspect.

I have no experience with OBS or Dxtory, so can't comment on that. I just have experience with Fraps and Shadowplay. Of the two I have used, I greatly prefer Shadowplay, as unlike Fraps, it doesn't cut your framerate in half.

I look forward to reading that article, Smitty.

Awesome Smitty! Can't wait to see that article.

Ok so I think I'm ok then if you are getting good results with that computer :)

I have i7 3770k at 3.9GHz, 16gb Ram and GeForce GTX 970 so should be good to go.

You can't really get a better computer than that (tho my CPU is faster), so yea, that will suffice.  ;)  I guarantee you that most streamers have less than that.

I think the # of monitors is important, too.  I only have one monitor right now, so it would be impossible for me to watch the chatbox while I play a game.  Seems like that's an important thing to have available when streaming.

Sek, I agree.  I have 3 monitors running at the moment.  One I monitor my OBS.  The othr, I monitor my chats and the live twitch stream, and my game is playing on the middle monitor.

Another consideration is your UPLOAD internet speed.  That will determine what rate you can actually upload to twitch and not have it stutter.  I have a 150MB upload speed, so I can send HD to the cloud.  Your results may vary...
