Hey guys, haven't played gw2 in a little bit due to work. I was just looking at things this week and wanted to drop in and say hi and let yall know I'm still around.

Enough about that, onto the real point of this post. My Logitech g35 broke..again. I bought a G35 about a year and a half ago, it broke. I sent it back for a replacement and that one broke about 8 months after they sent it to me. Logitech did give me a refund, with a bit of prodding on my end. So I am in the market for  a new headset or headphones and some kind of mic.

I have been thinking of the beyerdynamics mmx300. But then started thinking of how expenisve they are, after realizing they are pretty much the Beyerdynamic DT770 with a boom mic. So I have decided I am going to get the DT770 250 ohms version. I will be getting a dedicated sound card to run these headphones properly. Asus Essence StX, it has a built in hadphone amp that can run anything with up to 600 ohms of impedance.

So that is the first half, is there anything else I should consider before buying these headphones? I have heard great things about these from their build quality to their sound quality. So I am fairly set on them.

As far as a microphone goes, I would like a mic with either a 3.5 mm jack or a quarter inch jack. 3.5mm will probably be the way to go and I can just use an adapter to plug into the sound card. I have seen some really nice mics, but I don't want to get a mic that will pick up a lot of ambient sound/background noise since it wont' be right next to my face. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone for your input. I will be checking here periodically to see what yall say.

I`d go with a simple stand up mic it`s what i use . I tried a headset once went and bought one for 24 bucks at frys , wore it for a whole 10 min , then took it off and checked to see if i was wearing a pocket protector or not . when I saw I was still ok {no pocket protector} I tossed it back in the case took it back got my money on it and set up my old stand up mic, which works great .

If you're looking for a higher end item, I fully endorse/recommend this one: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/headphones/audio_headphones/on_ear_headphones/index.jsp I have had, used, and loved them for over two years (quality). (edit to add timeline.)

I'd Suggest getting headphones and Mic separately. Don't get a "computer" labeled microphone either, they typically have terrible audio quality. For headphones I'd recommend any over ear/closed headphones, they provide a deeper and more immersible sound. I use Sennheiser myself, they seem to be drop proof. Logitech works from what I hear, they usually have shorter lifespans and break easier tho. Never had a Beyerdynamics, they look High end in both quality and price. Never buy Turtle Beach. For Microphone get a vocal microphone that would be used more for studio recording. I've been using a RockBand Mic for years and it's clearer than 5 mics my brother has gone through. Also just a sidenote, these are the best earbuds I've ever had.

I just wanted to thank you all for giving your suggestions. I have had terrible luck in this category but the separate mic and headphones seems like a good option. I commonly game and watch TV at the same time when I'm not in a group and with going with a separate mic I can actually just use speakers. I hate having headphones on anyway. I had never thought of going with the better mic meant for Karoake or other video game consoles gor the better quaility. Thanks again.

Yeah, I have been reading a lot of stuff suggesting "gaming" headsets/mics are just a label and tend to "exploit" gamers who don't know much about audio equipment. I think I will check out some reviews on the bose headphones someone mentioned here. I am leaning towards the beyerdynamic DT770 if I can still get them for around 170 (they are 299.00$ from the manufacturer) so that's a pretty good deal for a pair of brand new headphones. I am very interested in their high quality build, the fact you can replace any piece on the headphones if it breaks/wears out etc is a boon that I am highly interested in. Apparently you can just buy parts and fix the headphones. That is far cheaper than buying a whole new headphone. As far as microphones go, would you suggest any of those USB recording mics, like blue ball or blue titanium? I don't really want to use a USB mic though, since I will be purchasing the Asus Essence STX which is mostly designed for 2.1 speaker systems or headphones with its headphone amp (drives up to 600 ohms of impedance). So I want a mic that I can use on that card with either a 3.5mm jack or a 1/4" jack. Either will work, because I will have a spare adapter to convert from 3.5mm to 1/4". I appreciate the responses. =)

I use a set of Turtlebeach X12's and love them. I recommend them to everyone that is looking for a new set. The sound quality is great, extremely comfortable, and mic is nice and clear. Mic on and off switch that isn't flimsy and won't turn off randomly.
