A suggestion for grouping for events such as PvE way point/POI clearing.

(Leaders of the event and/or Elders of the various guilds should stand in a straight line East to West)

After you/participant, arrive in the same overflow server or the actual server, that the event is taking place in;
You  may be kicked from the party:

1) if so, stand to the South of the Leader of the event.
   (While South of the party Leader, please right click on people around you and invite to group.
    Then if participants accept, you both move to the North of the event Leader)

2) if still in a "party" stand to the North of the Leader of the event.
    (Party means two or more, while North of the Leader, anyone/everyone in your group,
     should start clicking on people South of the event Leader and inviting them to your group)

I feel this would help because the "shoulder of responsibility" would now be many people compared to just a few.
It won't be perfect, and worst case scenario, it would make it easy to find Ben/Fog and join his squad. :D

Your friend,
Cheeflux

It seems easier to have everyone who needs a party invite say "event invite please" in /map or /say. There is no such thing as "party leader" in GW2, and everyone can invite to a party, so anyone watching chat can pick them up without even requiring the event leader's attention at all. Something else that works well for me is to just select random people in the zerg, right click their portrait, and select "Join Party". You don't actually need someone to invite you, you can invite yourself. Someone in the party just has to see your request to join and approve it (which is MUCH easier to notice than anything in chat). Joining the squad is easier than falling off a log, and actually has nothing to do with having a party. Just find the person with the giant blue commander icon, select them, right click their portrait, and select "Join Squad". No muss, no fuss. Your maneuver, while sensible, sounds complicated. I know it's actually quite simple, but when you're dealing with a group of 50-100 people, zerg mentality sets in, and even the simplest tasks become rocket surgery.

Cheeflux: Groups are not necessary in Guild Wars 2. People just do it because its a bit easier to find the blue dots if you get lost, but if there is a Commander leading the event, its really moot... just look for the blue arrow on the map. There is also a kill credit/loot bug with such a large amount of players, and people think that being in a group fixes it, but tbh, based on my experience, even being in a group doesn't fix it. Poor little mobs and a lot of the events are just not designed to handle Gaiscioch's zerg. LOL Joining a squad can only be accomplished if the "leader" has their Commander's book (100 gold) and have their Commander icon turned on. Then all you have to do is right click their icon on the map and select Join Squad. You can then check via your Group icon at upper left to see if you successfully joined the Squad. If not, then you are bugged and will need to click on their character, and right click their Portrait to join their squad. However, I think that there is also a max squad size limit, and of course... we manage to easily hit it. Nice idea, albeit rather complicated, but its not necessary.
