Free Pro Version of Ad-Aware Virus Scanner

I am posting this due to the fact of all the comments I have heard from people about having issues with key-loggers and viruses.

I used this specific offer to get it myself. I have been using the normal free version for years and it is a nice virus scanner that is not resource intensive. The Pre version is a live scanner. That means that it is always running activly trying to protect you.

I'm on Ad-Aware's email list and this offer was sent to me and I am now providing you with it too.

Go to this link to see the free offer: http://go.lavasoft.com/pro-security/08-12/PPF08-2/mailer.html

All you do when it asks you to sign up for something is pick NetFlix and use paypal as payment option. As soon as you have created your netflix account it will give you a conformation page. On this page it will give you a link to canceling your subscription. Click on it and cancel your subscription. The first month is free and now the sub is canceled. Now go to paypal and make sure the payment subscription is canceled in there too (you will have to cancel it yourself on paypal). Now you have Ad-aware PRO for FREE. I did this myself so i know it works.

For additional help in detecting keylogers and malware you should get Malwarebytes which is also FREE. This one is not an active scanner so you will have to tell it to start it up and tell it to scan each time.

i used to use ad-aware, it is a good program and i would reccommend it to anyone. nowadays i use kaspersky av/malwarebytes pro, which does have active protection and is 20 dollars to get it for life. as far as firewall i use windows firewall, but ive tweaked it slightly. anyways ive tried a lot of antivirus/antimalware combos and imo this is the best as far as resources/protection go. if your looking for a free AV program, avast and AVG are good options, and of course, you should use ccleaner from time to time. this is a good heads up, especially w/ all the keyloggers going around and hacked accounts. hopefully anet will come out w/ an authenticator soon which will alleviate some of the risk. thumbs up on this post :).

There is also this one that gives you a free 1 year trial and is rated in top 5 for anti virus . http://www.avast.com/en-us/index I would recommend getting avast , aswell as runing windows defender . for anti virus . And getting malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy for spyware /keyloggers . run a quick scan of avast and windows daily and atleast 1 time a week run full scan avast full scan takes 2 hours so you can do scan while sleeping etc. spybot and malware full scans take 40 min each, and windows defender around 20 min .

There is a catch to this. You have to agree to sign up for another product in order to receive it. Complete 1 offer and you're done! or..No thanks, I'd rather pay

Should be moved to main forum as this is not GW2 related. Plus its not really free, unless you sign up for another product.

Figured I just throw my 2 cents in here... My day job is mostly filled with cleaning viruses/malware and I can tell you the main issue with keyloggers is many are not and may never be detected by all malware/virus scanners. It's a never ending argument trying to suggest the 'best' AV solution as everyone has a different option so, I'll just go with the 'better then most option'... Avast and AVG seem to be at or near the top for free software for active real time scanning. For passive scanning you can't go wrong with Malwarebytes. Again, most active and passive scanners are simply after the fact, by the time something is detected there is a good chance that your info may be out already. The best bet to keep everything secure is to use a Gmail account with 2-step authentication, Anet's email authentication and of course be mindful of what your downloading - oh and unique passwords, don't forget that. On the last point if your ever not sure and the file is under 20mb you can always submit it to Virustotal and they will scan with all the popular scanners for you. http://www.av-comparatives.org/ From the last whole product dynamic test (real-world) the best overall were BitDefender, G DATA, Kapersky Qihoo, and F-Secure. Of course no scanner running from within an infected OS can ever detect all infections, you need an offline tool (such as the Ultimate Boot CD For Windows) to remove many rootkits.

@Miriam @Kalec The sign up for another product is covered in the post. If you sign up for NetFlix it costs you nothing and they are a known online company. First month of NetFlix is free so once the account is made just cancel NetFlix and you have it all for free. From my post: All you do when it asks you to sign up for something is pick NetFlix and use paypal as payment option. As soon as you have created your netflix account it will give you a conformation page. On this page it will give you a link to canceling your subscription. Click on it and cancel your subscription. The problem is the for the Netflix its only for new customers. If you already have an account, then it wont work. Its good for 1 year, then you have to renew for 1-3 years. You can use Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) which is already free and works really well. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials

Not that yet another opinion is needed in this thread, but I'm going throw mine out there because I'm in charge of a group of 40 techs that handles roughly 6,400 trouble tickets from residential customers every month. No AV/Malware protection is 100% certain. You can bypass all of them (and people do). Safe practices are far more important. Having too many scanners is just as bad as having none. Often they can interfere with each other and prevent each other from working properly. Get one AV and one malware protection program. If your AV does malware, you may want to avoid the overhead of another malware scanner. Malware: Ad-aware is okay but not much more than that. The most effective tool, particularly for removal of malware, is (as someone above mentioned) Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (affectionately known as MBAM). AV: If you're a hand's-off kind of person, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, light-weight and has an amazingly high catch rate. Be aware that it is very un-configurable though. My personal favorite is Kaspersky but it's a very hand's on and technical program.
