So for those of us in the states, especially those who work early morning tomorrow, launch could be a predicament, and I can't decide what I'll be doing, hoping some input here will help.

I'm pacific time, so launch is 9pm or midnight, depending what they do. Do you think I should start drinking redbull when I get off work and stay up all night, or should I get home, eat dinner, then take a nap til 9? THEN commense drinking redbull

Haha, I plan to get up really early on Friday, work out for two hours and then sleep in the afternoon. Then get up about midnight ( I am east coast) and hope the servers come up. I plan on staying up all night, maybe I'll take a nap, and then play all day Saturday.

I'm Pacific and I work until 7pm, so I'll be staying up. At least long enough to make my characters so I can get my names. Since I have to work on Saturday, too, I'll need to sleep. I hope to get some playtime after work on Saturday and possibly Saturday morning.

I'm EST, and I was going to take an early bedtime & get up at 2:30am, but since servers could start going up as early as midnight... I'll probably be staying up. Lots of coffee and natural adrenaline will should get me through just fine. :)

I have to work tomorrow, so I'm planning on getting plenty of sleep tonight, working tomorrow, dinner when I get home with the hubby then probably nap for about 4 hours, wake up at 10pm and be prepared to play. I'm expecting to play all day Sat on the 4 hours of nap time.

I'm in the central timezone. So I might try to take a nap in the afternoon. I mainly want to grab my names once the server goes live. I'd also like to help build up the guild so there will be plenty of room for everyone the first time they log in. So I may very well end up playing a while to raise some coin. I foresee some late night coffee.

I used to go to bed around 6:00 am and get up about noon. Anymore, my "normal" bedtime is 2:00 am Central, and I sleep till I awaken (as early as 7:00 or as late as 10:00). Servers are supposed to come up anywhere between 11:00 pm and 2:00 am my time. I plan to reserve my names, at the very least, before going to bed; then I'll continue whatever "bright and early" is for me on Saturday morning.

I just know that once I get on I won't want to get off as I don't have the willpower just to snag names and then log off. I am weak. So napping made more sense for me than staying up.

This is where I can say, "It's GOOD to be retired!" I have my sleep adjusted a bit. I tend to be a night owl. Atheas and I shouldn't have any trouble napping during the day a bit on Friday and then just staying up all night if we are in the mood to. Of course, it will be even easier if they really do crank this baby up three hours, or so, early. =)

I'm going with the 3rd option myself. Log on, create characters real fast to reserve names. Log off, go to bed, wake up early ish. I don't do well with staying up all night. I get a 'lil cranky.

I'd go with a nap except that Sleepy Time Mazzy prioritizes comfy time and sleep above all else. Once I give control over to him I have a really hard time taking back over until he's good an ready. Honestly I don't like the guy. If nothing else he makes mornings hectic which irritates both my wife and I. He doesn't particularly care what we think or if I'm going to be late, because he doesn't have to deal with the fall out. That's all on me once I regain control and get this body moving again. As long as I avoid the couch I tend to do okay fighting him off, but once I sit and get comfy I quickly find myself slumping over and then I'm waking up at 5 AM still on the couch. Horizontal if I'm lucky, but sometimes just passed out upright with a sore neck. So yeah, no couch on Friday.

*waves enthusiastically to Kethryvaris*. (it's Maena - finally well enough to game again :) EST here, so sometime between 12am and 3am. ..depending on when servers go live. My brain tells me I should go to bed early and rest (being pregnant is like a 24 hour workout btw) but I know I will be way to excited to sleep. In fact, I'm already having a hard time sleeping since I read articles and watch YouTube videos on GW2 which make me even more excited...it's like a never-ending cycle over here. This reminds me, I am going to have to put the non-gamer hubby on toddler duty Sat and Sun night. ;)

Might Have to start one of these. Anyone else try it yet? http://www.highexistence.com/alternate-sleep-cycles/ Alternative Sleep Cycles: You Don’t Really Need 6-8 Hours! Most people only think that there is one way to sleep: Go to sleep at night for 6-8 hours, wake up in the morning, stay awake for 16-18 hours and then repeat. Actually, that is called amonophasic sleep cycle, which is only 1 of 5 major sleep cycles that have been used successfully throughout history. The other 4 are considered polyphasic sleep cycles due to the multiple number of naps they require each day. How is this possible? How is this healthy? Well the most important of every sleep cycle is the Stage 4 REM (Rapid Eye Movement)sleep, which has been shown to provide the benefits of sleep to the brain above all other stages of sleep. When changing over to a polyphasic cycle, the lack of sleep tricks the body into entering REM sleep immediately instead of 45 to 75 minutes into sleep like in the monophasic sleep. This way, you still get the benefits of 8 hours of sleep without wasting all of the time it takes to get to REM cycles, resulting in a much more efficient sleep cycle. Here are polyphasic cycles: Uberman Cycle: 20 to 30 minute naps every 4 hours, resulting in 6 naps each day. The uberman cycle is highly efficient, and usually results in feeling healthy, feeling refreshed upon waking and extremely vivid dreams. Many uberman-users report increased ability to lucid dream as well. However, the rigid schedule makes it near impossible to miss naps without feeling horribly tired. Blogger Steve Pavlina tried the cycle for 5.5 months and had amazingly positive results. He only reverted to monophasic sleep so that he could be on the same cycle as his wife and children. Everyman Cycle: One longer “core” nap that is supplemented with several 20-30 minute naps. The most successful variations that I have read about are either one 3 hour nap and three 20-minute naps or one 1.5 hour nap with 4-5 20 minute naps, all of which have equal amounts of time in between each nap. This cycle is much easier to adjust to than the Uberman and allows for more flexibity in nap times and in skipping naps when necessary. It is also still extremely efficient compared to monophasic with only 3-4 hours of sleep per day. Dymaxion Cycle: Bucky Fuller invented the cycle based on his belief that we have two energy tanks, the first is easy to replenish whereas the second tank (second wind) is much harder to replenish. So Bucky began sleeping for 30 minutes every 6 hours. That’s 2 hours a day of sleep! He reported feeling, “the most vigorous and alert condition I have ever enjoyed.” Doctors examined him after several years of using the cycle and pronounced him perfectly healthy. In fact, Fuller only stopped the cycle because his business associates were still stuck on monophasic cycles. This is by far the most extreme of the 4 alternate cycles, but also the most efficient. Biphasic/Siesta Cycle: Not even worthy of a diagram, the biphasic cycle is basically that of every college student in America. The biphasic cycle consists of sleeping for 4-4.5 hours at night, and then taking a 90 minute nap around noon. So not all that different, still more efficient than monophasic, but not by much. So which cycle is right for you? That completely depends on your lifestyle. Keep in mind that if you decide to switch to either the Dymaxion or Uberman cycles, you will be a zombie from day 3 to around day 10 until your body fully adjusts to the cycle. Here are some other tips I have gathered from reading other people’s accounts: - Eat healthy, avoid fatty foods and the adjustment will be much easier - Make sure you have a project to work on during all of your new awake hours as it makes the time go by faster - Also make sure you have two or three weeks of freedom to adjust to the cycle so that you don’t go to work or school completely dead from sleep deprivation - Hang in there. Each of the cycles will get exponentially easier all of the sudden after the first 2 weeks or so. Just be patient and diligent! Don’t skip naps or change your nap times around or you will basically have to start your adjustment period over. - Use natural cues for being waking up from naps like sunlight and loud music, while using darkness and silence for sleep (obviously) If you are seriously considering making the switch over the a polyphasic sleep cycle, a really enjoyable and informative read is Steve Pavlina’s extremely in-depth report of his experience with the Uberman cycle.

I've been narcoleptic for... well, it would be about 45 years now, I guess. Maybe longer, but that's when I remember experiencing it. Symptoms are somewhat cyclical, but daytime napping is almost always going to happen, whether I want it to or not. One of the hallmarks of narcolepsy is that you (almost) immediately enter REM sleep. I can take a 2 minute nap and have a vivid dream during it. Another thing is that I very seldom have any difficulty falling asleep. Indeed, people are often jealous that I'm fast asleep within a minute or two of closing my eyes. The closest match for me on your list, Jibbs, is the Biphasic cycle. At least when I'm in the "less EDS" (excessive daytime sleepiness) end of the cycle, as I am now. Although I generally sleep more like 6 hours at night and 1 to 1.5 in the daytime. At the other extreme of the cycle, all bets are off. I may sleep as much as 12 (sometimes more) hours a day with numerous unscheduled but unavoidable naps. :)
