Hey all

I've been poking my head back into GW2 again after not playing for years. I have several level 80 characters, but had none of the expansions. I did just buy the HOT expansion and played with a Revenant for a while, which I really enjoy. I leveled her to 20, then used the free level 80 boost.

I was doing the basic story quests, but then played around in the new zones for a while.

My main question is, what exactly should I be aiming for? I'm honestly confused there is SO much going on that I really don't know where to begin. I did unlock Masteries and got my beginner glider, but now I'm just not sure what I should be focusing on.

How viable is the Revenant class for a mainly solo player? I do like her, but I also miss playing my Necromancer. Which is more solo friendly? I have to admit the full set of armor and weapons I got with the 80 boost makes my Revenant more appealing, since my Necro has nowhere near that good equipment.

Thanks!

Welcome back McHaggis, HoT and PoF are both made for TEAM playing.  If you want to play alone you will probably survive with revenant.  It is really up to you if you like the story, go for events - PVE or PVP or WvW - We have events listed on the calendar for all types.  Just so you know, I have an event thursday afternoon at 4:15pm pacific - to help level up with getting gliding skills.

You can also go to metabattle and look up your professions. It will give you options for what you want to do.

Welcome back! Well it depends what you like in the game. Many loves to craft legendary weapons or armor. Then there are raids, fractals and all sorts of pve content. Also not forgetting pvp and wvw. Just find something what you love to do and it should work out.

Now what comes to classes Revenant is great class and can be quite survivable when played correctly. However necromancer has better AOE skills and necro can summon minions which acts buffer against mobs. So I would say necromancer works much better alone.

The most important thing in life will always be the people around you. Salud, mi familia.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind grouping at all, it's just at the moment, I'm only able to play for short periods at a time, so grouping isn't always an option. I'll check out the calendar and see if I can make a few events. I'm learning the game all over again pretty much :)

I think I'll also have to play around with the other classes in the new zones as well. I have all the classes at lvl 80, except Guardian which I think is 68. When I played before, the Ranger and Necromancer were my 2 favorites, so I'll mess around with those to see which one I want to stick to as my "main". I'm a complete altaholic, so I always find it difficult to stick with one :)

As for crafting, If I remember correctly, before I quit playing before, I had almost every craft at 400. I am guessing that is no longer max, so I probably need to be working on that some as well.

I did just purchase PoF as well, since cdkeys had it on sale for $26. So one more question. Can I use the 80 boost on an already level 80 character to get the gear?

I honestly can't remember about the gear and I have not used either 80 boost from HoT or PoF yet. They are clogging a shared inventory slot. I don't think you need to use the 80 booster to get the gear, but someone might have a better memory. I can't remember about the armor because most of my toons were already in exotic and one was in partial ascended when PoF came out.

Jeweler and Chef are still a max of 400. All of the others have a max of 500 since they added the ascended gear. I'm still working on leveling up my crafting, putting ascended gear on a second toon, and crazily started working on a legendary that I have the precursor done for, but now I need tons of materials. Most of what I figured out for crafting I did through the wiki or googling for other player created sources.

Like you, when I came back last summer I had to figure out what I was doing. I did get HoT in 2016, but found it didn't grab me at the time. I'm a lot happier with the game now and loved PoF. I still have a lot to work on in HoT since I don't have all the Masteries done there yet.

My suggestions since you have everything now:

HoT - definitely work on the gliding, you will want bouncy mushrooms next for map exploration because even if you get the PoF springer mount, you may still need the mushrooms. At some point you will want to work up to the poison related skill which without logging on I can't remember where that one is. There are spots where you will not survive without it. Not a lot, but they are there and I think one has a mastery hiding in it that you will have to wait for because you'll die before you can get it.

PoF - do the starter story that gets you going and gives you a mount as soon as you can for the fun of running around faster on the maps and jumping horizontally over all sorts of holes in the ground.

The most important thing is to have fun. If you see me one and need some help, don't hesitate to ask. If I'm not already doing something with others or in a story instance for one of my toons, I will gladly come.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I just saw there are new pets to get for the Ranger as well, so I may end up playing that for a while. Always enjoyed tracking down all the pets :)

Awesome, welcome back!

Revenant has been great fun for HoT and PoF.  Pretty tough and "It will kill."  See you in game!

i don't know Rev, so can't speak to that.

i also have to solo a fair bit because i am on the East Coast and can't always stay up for the family events.

i have found my necro to be very survivable in solo mode, especially as a scourge build. that being said, i think the most important thing is to settle on a build that you love.

i recently returned to GW2 after a few years away. it can be overwhelming, i agree. for what it's worth, i encourage you to get your HoT mounts, if you haven't already. then find group and solo content you enjoy. World Boss events (see the timers) can be great ways to be in a group and get some higher level gear. of course, the many family events, if their schedules match yours really can't be beat.

all the best

Got into the guild last night (thanks for the invite!), so hopefully I can arrange to join some of the events. I'm really having altaholic issues right now though, every time I log onto a different character, I get sucked into playing that one, lol. I enjoy so many of the classes, I 'm finding it tough to stick with one as a "main". So far, it's between Necromancer, Ranger and Engineer...
