Hi guys,

Had a great time in Prissy's Hel Ra training run and I learned a few things from both in front and behind the shield. I appreciate the opportunity I had to play both sides of it to get a perspective from the world of DPS and get some tank time in as well.

1. DPS side. I have spoken with 4 other people who play end game tanks. As a fully geared and spec'd tank with 62 points in health, I just cant slap on a 5 piece purple Martial Knowledge with magicka  runes on it, Warlock jewelry and armor, and a Master destruction staff (That is what I was wearing) and do DPS that is respectable for the Trials or say, DSA or VDSA. Health based builds are too much of a handicap to dual spec like a magic based DPS/Heal combo option. I could be proven wrong but it does not work for me as was illustrated to me yesterday.

I need to level a DPS character to VR12 or higher to participate as DPS and not be a drag on the raid. I have a Templar at VR1 who will be the next project.

2. Tank side. From behind the shield on the first boss I was able to soak the first whirlwind with the Magma armor ultimate. From that point on however, his whirlwind attack continues as part of his rotation. Even with all my other mitigation buffs up (Hardened armor, Igneous shield, Green Dragon Blood, Hardening enchant on both weapons) the damage from that is 21k per second in the combat log. That Magma armor ultimate costs 200 points and it just doesn't come back that fast. The second whirlwind on the boss I escaped with a double dodge roll, a lucky dodge from the Hist Bark 5 piece, and two healers spamming me.

From the strategy I saw, the boss was kited starting at 35% right before the first whirlwind. That would be especially helpful for any other tank without the god mode armor ultimate or I could begin to kite him after my first Ultimate is down.

The second split group boss was awesome, add waves, fire stars, burning oil, mayhem! My favorite type of fight.

I would love to hear from anyone else be it their first time, or otherwise, about their experience in there.

Jjr,

I'm just learning tanking skills and rotations on my DK but I have been on four successful Hel Ra runs with Lavum, 3 with him tanking (and leading the raid).  Far as I can tell, he's got the thing mastered.
