Posted on that. I'm sure they will look into it. People need to learn to vote with their money. We like the game great.. buy the game but if you don't want anything from the store.. don't spend your free pearls and don't buy anything. They will see where we stand in a few months.

Prices are about right.  Costumes are more expensive in a few other games, that I can think of.  These games are a business, an expensive business, yet most players seem to think they deserve every piece of content for free, because it's just pixels for their entertainment.

What I find a bit hypocritical, is those same people will go spend $14 for ~2 hours of visual entertainment, that they can't walk out with and take home... well, other than maybe some nice memories.

Contextual priorities, I guess.

There has been some significant and elaborate (sometimes) discussion on this issue on the BDO official forums. I've commented on several of those threads, but what it comes down to: the prices are too high for the Western market. I'd say the costumes are roughly double the price at which they would sell well, pets need to come down about 25%, and the dyes are a mess all around.

Although personally i may pay that type of money for what CBT2 prices were set at, i do feel that when looking at it from a "long-term" point of view, it could use some re-adjustments.

I don't want to find myself spending hundreds of Dollars down the road and have very little to show for it; because when i look at all the things I've accumulated in Gw2 on two separate Characters, it's a lot of toys, but it never felt like i had payed a lot for those toys, so that always made me happy.

Now if i wanted to go to the opposite side of the extremes here; I'd look at a game like Conquer Online or Neverwinter Online, where to feel like i got anything i was truly happy with, i had to reach into nose-bleed prices (think of a number in the "Thousands")

I use that last part only as an example of what i will never be willing to pay just to feel content with buying something, and I'm glad those days are over; but i am finding myself pretty concerned with "Dyes" at the moment.

EDIT: I did cast my vote by-the-way, the prices are higher then i feel they should be based on a sort of broad average that i have personally witnessed myself in other online games released in the Western markets.

I was looking at the prices for BnS, and I guess BDO prices are a little bit higher.  It looks like most of the costumes in BnS are $10-20, and people actually claim that those are too high.

Archeage... well, Archeage runs about $20-ish, too, but they put their main attractions in RNG boxes that cost about $3 each, so you can wind up spending $3 or $300.  The nice thing about Archeage costumes, is they offer several different payment methods (credits and tokens), but for each payment type, they are also different costumes, though usually just color, sometimes a little texture or pattern difference.

Korean developers love their RNG cash shops, which seems to not be something that PA/Daum-EU has adopted for BDO, so to be perfectly honest, $30 for a full set of costume and weapon skins is a really good bargain.  I'm sorry if folks disagree, but you're going to spend more for less, in a lot of other games.

A lot of Aeria Games costumes generally cost $40-50, sometimes can find sales for $20.  GW2 and ESO are arguably the cheapest, but aren't some of the ESO costumes like $20-30, too?  I'd have to check on that to be sure.

I suppose Daum could just stick them all on dungeon bosses, like BnS does for some costumes, but people would complain that they were being forced to participate in content that they don't like, so there really is no win/win.

I don't know, maybe Archeage has numbed me to the potential high cost of using the cash shop.  Most spend hundreds, while several have spent thousands on their cash shop.  If you hear the terms "VISA warrior" or "swipe2win", Archeage is where they originated.  Well, maybe not originated, but became mainstream gaming terms.  Seriously, your jaws would hit the floor if you knew how much money people have spent on that game.

Anyway, yea I'm all for cheaper stuff from BDO, so I hope they do adjust them down for launch.  I just don't see $30 as OMG$!$!$ cash shop robbery.

Heh, no dilemma for me: I don't use cash shops.

I would consider an item IF and only IF it is account based.

Well I'm on the verge of what the majority of the players are saying. Items such as costumes are to high and need to be cut in half in order to sell well for BDO. My reasoning behind this is it's already a Korean style mmo so in order to do well by the players willing to play it in the EU/NA region they have to be competitive to the NA\EU 800 pound gorillas (GW2).

As far as the dyes goes this is also the same problem and Daum has already commented on it "

Question: Any plans to introduce a basic set of craftable/earnable dyes? One or two shades of each colour if you will.

Answer: This issue hasn't really been discussed yet because we thought there were already plenty of ways to obtain dyes, such as the marketplace, or events. However, upon receiving and answering this question, we think the dye system deserves some more attention. We are willing to offer basic dyes for players' convenience, but we definitely think the usefulness of those dyes must not compromise the value of the existing dyes. We will discuss this issue internally. Thank you for a good suggestion. "

Many many concerns over the cash shop prices and to be honest if they were to keep them this high I doubt they will do it for very long considering that people will just vote with their money and not buy them at that cost. They may do a "sale" which would reduce the cost of a costume for market testing to see what is the price point that creates a drive to buy this is a common tactic and I'm sure they are aware of it. The biggest concern people have with the costs are " costumes are more expensive than the actual game" TBH they are correct. 10-15$ is where they need to be imho to be competitive

The pets I'm right up there with Malthol they need to be reduced by about 25%. They don't really do much for the average user other than collect loot and growl/meow a bit. Just fluff imho.

Once they get in the right place i'm sure it will be a major asset to the game like GW2's is as it's not nearly considered a problem for them and I actually looked forward to new items on that market.

Personally, my major concern at launch will be do I use my pearls to by my favorite valk costume or use them for bag slot expansion!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!? this is a dangerous question lol.

All my pearls will go to bag space and QoL items. Costumes are cool, but I'm more concerned about quality of life, I hate having to transfer items back and forth to different storage, especially as the warehouses aren't linked. I just look at cash shop item as loyalty rewards most games give for subbing. Two months at $15 would be one costume. Most people would praise the developers of a sub game for their generosity. The problem is bugeting oneself.

Wanted to add, it costs approximately $180 a year to play WoW for example, and another $40-$70 for expansions every 18-24 months, and they still sale mounts for $25+ and pets for $10 and up. Just my two cents worth.

Pretty much everything I play has a cash shop, we're talking 20+ games, so I'll just work this cash shop like I've learned to do the others: spend as little RL cash as possible and save my initial Pearls for discount sales or limited sale items.

For the record, Tera (another Korean product) has a vastly overpriced shop also.  Pretty sure they don't care it is in a western market.

As mentioned above, folks can vote with their wallet.  However, I prophesy that many players will use the shop regardless.  Referencing Tera again, it has not curtailed the players spending wildly.  Beyond reasoning, players are hooked on buying "stuff" for their toons.  If they support my game with their spending then I have no issues with that.

Excellent example.  TERA was one of the ones that I referenced to in my blanket statement.  I think that Daum can get by with what they're charging, people that want will pay a little more and if you consider the art assets involved... point me at a game that has better... or even equal.

Is it overpriced?  Yes, a little bit if compared to most of it's peers. Is it unreasonable?  Not in my opinion. Would I like them to lower prices?  Heck, I'd love for all of them to lower their prices, even GW2.  I look at these stores and think, "I want, I want, I want... can't afford, can't afford, can't afford..."  QQ

I was happy to see this thread as Marrra and I had our eyes set on BDO (before coming back to GSCH) and when we saw the articles around concerning the Pay to Win/Item Shop rumors, this thread made me realise it may not be as bad as some say (or as crippling).

At lunch today, I did a "Can I Run It" and had no idea the game ran on our rigs (was thinking it needed more oomph) but since I just got the HoT GW2 expansion, I would be killed if we dived in at the start :P

Once we get a try at the game and judge it is what we're hoping it is, then we'll make our way over :)

"Pay to Win"... one of the most parroted, yet misunderstood and misused, gaming terms in the history of... well, of gaming.

Play Archeage.  You will then understand the correct meaning of "pay to win".  I personally know a guy, who has spent over $50k on buying one of the highest gear-scores in the game.  They buy APEX for $10, sell it for gold and then use the gold to buy gear from players, thus skipping a LOT of time and item loss due to poor RNG rolls.

It's rumored that the guy with the highest GS, has spent six-figures.  It's most likely true, they're both wealthy folks.

BDO's cash shop isn't even a flicker of candle-light, compared to Archeage's.

edit: Wanted to mention, that the $50k number was what he'd said he spent, the last I spoke to him as of about 8 months ago and I know that he's added to it, as he's a regular supplier of APEX to his friends.

edit#2:  Ok, so I thought about it and felt I maybe should give some perspective, because that $50k number, while at the far end of the spending spectrum, isn't really that unusual for the game.  I know several others who have spent $10-20k and most spent $1-10k, while very few spend under $1k.  I know folks who budget ~$300 a month for the game, and many others who budget at least $100.

Personally, I'm still well under $1000 total, not including subscriptions.  I've spent mostly on cosmetics, fluff stuff and account upgrades (inventory, vehicles, etc.), maybe $600-ish and actually haven't spent any cash at all in the last 6 months, other than sub fees.

That being said, my gear score is low, like really suffering.  I hate the combat system, so I haven't bothered with my gear, but it does require massive amounts of gold to get decent gear, regardless of buying or playing the insane RNG system.  That requires either an extreme amount of time (thousands of play hours) or ... $10 for an instant 600-700 gold.
