Guard Duty

By: Ckemikal

My turret spun, raining bullets and fire on to the forces of Destruction below. I stood victorious on the heaping pile of bodies. High Elves on their horses looked up at me in awe as grenades flew from my hands and found their targets as if guided by the gods themselves. No Destruction would be claiming Festenplatz tonight! The sky opened and stout rained from the heavens in celebration…

A loud cawing overhead awoke me from my daydream. I was back on the Nordland XI. Waves lapped lazily against the wood as the glory of battle could be heard in the distance. Wait! What was that? Incoming! Two! No! Three Destro! All this waiting! All this boredom! We would hold this battle objective against the approaching assailants! I warned the warband and prepared defenses. No one would make it on the boat today!

They made it on the boat. My body grew weak as the spiritual energy pulsed and burned my skin. A large green hulking mass of ugly appeared at my side, slashing at me with his axes. I did the only thing I could do, run around erratically while throwing grenades and praying for heals. Just as the blackness of death pulled me in with its unforgiving claws, I heard the thundering of hooves. The warband was here! I looked down my corporal husk as they made quick work of the chaos tainted beings, waiting for my resurrection. After my spirit was pulled back into its stocky shell, I waved goodbye to the departing army and shouted my thanks. Water once again lapped tranquilly against the rocking boat and my gut rumbled. Maybe next time they stopped by, they would bring some pizza.
