Note before I start --- If this is not what happened, then mea culpa, but I asked in guild chat about what might have happened, and no one knew, so I'm left with no alternative narrative. I'm not asking for support or dissent -- I just wanted to air my opinion.
I've been playing Rift a lot lately, and I've really been enjoying it. That being said, I think I'm gonna probably cut back on time in Rift.
A few days ago, a pretty intense PVP guild quest was accepted. I had been curious about the state of PVP, so I took it as a good time to jump in and try out some warfronts. I don't think I was anything special, but I did chalk up some wins and got a few hundred kills towards the quest. The last I saw the quest, it was at around 2000 out of the required 7000 PVP kills. I logged on this morning, and the quest was gone. I don't imagine we actually got 5000 kills and 25+ warfront wins while I was sleeping, so I'm pretty sure someone abandoned the quest for a different one. I wouldn't mind this, but other people and myself were obviously doing things to further this quest. It's 100% the only reason I was even giving PVP a try.
It just really rubs me the wrong way that someone seemingly logged in, saw a guild quest they weren't happy with, and moved on to a new one, even though there was significant work already done. I feel that hours of my time trying to help the guild were thrown away and wasted.
Now, with this being an XP boost weekend, I'm sure the choice was justified as being "good for the guild," but I can't change my reaction to it.
This, coupled with the fact I think Trion has made decisions that punish (or at least take an inordinate percentage of money from) people who attempt to excel in the game, has led me to the decision to cut back on Rift time and try some other things.
Respectfully,
