Gaiscioch Community Notes Issue 9, 2017

Cead Mile Failte!

As we enter the hectic conference gauntlet, our anticipation is high. There are so many great games coming toward the PC and Console market over the next year, that there are a ton of things to talk about. We've got Guild Wars 2 about to launch their second expansion. Ashes of Creation is letting me go hands-on at PAX West in just a few days. There is a lot of movement on the horizon, which is sure to bring exciting days to come.

This past month hasn't entirely been a good one. Mid-way through the month, Pops delivered the sad news that his close gaming friend, Mynrbird, has passed.

In Loving Memory of John

It is with great sadness that I report that our dear and beloved Mynrbird has lost his battle with cancer. Many of you know him from Elder Scrolls Online and Rift. He joined us on March 21st of 2014, and led our family to over 20,000 victories across 33 events. We ran a “Craglorn Anomaly Run” event for the better part of a year. Over the course of his membership, he earned the rank of Curadh de na Capall Dearg.

We are deeply saddened by his loss and he will be missed. I will be adding him to our Hall of Legends so that he may live forever in our hearts and minds.

Known Aliases:

  • @Mynrbird
  • Misgeach Mc Keighn
  • Beruset Kriggar
  • Anbhas Bahnsidhe

I would like to host a memorial to Mynrbird; however, I will be away traveling for the next couple weekends. If anyone can touch base with me, to see what day and time might be best, we can get something on the calendar to properly pay tribute to our ascended legend of Mynrbird. I am also looking for someone who was close to him to write a page of tribute for publication in our magazine.

Meetups Meetups and More Meetups!

What could be better than getting together with friends and family to celebrate the community we all love?  This year’s festivities are right around the corner and we want to make sure everyone has the dates and times in advance, to get connected and ready for travel.

I wanted to take a moment to say congratulations to a few members this month for accepting their next credo and stepping into a new role in our family.

Guardians (Seaimpín)

The Gaiscioch Family Guardians are an advanced part of the Veteran Members group and serve as the front line of our family. They help newer members learn about the family, our website, and our belief system. They occasionally will need to help get conversations back on track, or report misdoing's to the family elders. They act as advisors, guidance providers, and overall protectors of the family name. By this time a member should be involved in the family for more than 6 months and has been an active attendee in family events. For those who prefer fellowship over leadership this is the last stop on the family tree. Members must prove their leadership ability to progress to the Leadership ranks through the accumulation of both Valor Points (Earned through leading events.) as well as earning Tokens of Valor from lower ranked members of the family.

Guild Wars 2 News

The Path of Fire Expansion Launches September 22nd

The excitement is brewing, and many of you have already picked-up the expansion. We'll be planning some events in the new world, after the expansion launches, and I will likely postpone siege war for a few weeks so we can do things like move our guild hall and explore the new world.  People are starting to flock back to the game and we're down to a 2 month AFK rotation. Anyone that's been away longer than 2 months will need to be invited back into Gaiscioch na Rall. Simply ask for an invite in your core room (Anu or Morrigan), and one of our commanders can invite you back into the active room. You can also click "Request Reinvite" on the command center to be reinvited as well, but an elder must process the invitation, which may take up to a day to process.

Preparing for the Move

Once the new expansion hits, we'll be packing up our guild hall and migrating it to the new Oasis for a while. The process to migrate guild halls is relatively simple and you don't lose any of your upgrades. So, we can move our fully-upgraded Lost Precipice to Windswept Haven, and have the same features we had before. If you're interested in seeing what the new guild hall will look like visit:

Great Tyrian Adventure Season 4

The latest season of our hit Guild Wars 2 event is scheduled to kick off Thursday, October 19th, 2017, at 5:00PM PDT. We're in the final stages of building the legendary prizes, and can use your help acquiring the necessary materials to build these prizes. The key items in need are: Armored Scales, Vicious Fangs, Vicious Claws, Ancient Bones, Vials of Powerful Blood, Powerful Venom Sacs, Elaborate Totems, Piles of Crystalline Dust, Piles of Incandescent Dust, Piles of Luminous Dust, Piles of Radiant Dust, Orichalcum Ingots Corrupted Lodestones, Glacial Lodestones, Molten Lodestones, Destroyer Lodestones, Piles of Coarse Sand, Flax Fiber, Piles of Flax Seeds, and of course gold. Send any of these items to Foghladha.2506 so that I can process them and award you contribution credit.

Rift Community Update

Over the past few months you might have noticed a slight downward slide in active players. This was expected post-launch of the 4.0 expansion, as with any game expansion. We are starting to settle into our long-term size and it appears the incoming requests to join are beginning to thin out. At this point, I believe the game is going to need to take some positive action to start driving new players to enter the game. The past few patches haven't helped the population and many have been upset by them.

That said, I'm proud of our raid teams, who have cleared the new content with flying colors, and we've also seen a surge of new crifting events. As we stabilize and find our groove, I suspect we'll be around 10-20 players during primetime, and continue enjoying the small tight-knit community lifestyle.

Now I want to address a rumor that has surfaced. There are no plans to close the chapter, so I'd like to put that rumor to bed. I've heard it mentioned by a couple people and I really don't want people misunderstanding what we're doing. We are still actively bringing new members in, we are still actively hosting public events, and we are still actively livestreaming our activities as a Trion Creator. We will continue to keep this chapter open as long as there are 50+ people playing. Then, we would put it on the Social Adventure table, and keep going with what we had. But I don't foresee that happening anytime in the next year. There is still a lot of fun to be had and Trion does seem to be actively trying to fix things.

It has never been my intention to make RIFT as large as it once was. I wanted to create a place where we could know each other, play with each other, and grow as a community at our own pace. While we might not be able to field a 20 man raid anymore, I feel confident that there is still a lot of community interaction going on.  If we keep including outside members in our events we'll continue to grow and maintain our numbers as people come and go. We won't be kicking AFK members from the Rift Community, so at any time they can return and pick up right where they left off. There is no guild cap, so we don't need to worry about hitting a ceiling.

Rift Adventures September Lineup

The Rift Adventures continue, as we explore additional content streams. However, this month we'll be taking a week off for PAX West. But, we resume the following week with an exciting adventure of Hunting Bounties! You've wondered what these are?  I'm gonna show you!  I'll be giving everyone a tour of a few of my favorite bounty hunting locations. In addition, this month we've got 15x 5th Anniversary Racing Snails to give away on the Livestream and in-game. These codes expire at the end of the month, so we'll be giving them all away this month! Don't miss these fun events.

Social Adventures News

Changing Claim Rules to Accommodate Smaller Groups

There's been quite a lot of discussion about the claim window for social adventures being too short. First, I'd like to explain why it is short.

Unlike our traditional leadership / fellowship system, the social adventure system allocates points based on the number of participants over the length of time the event ran. The larger the claim window, the longer it takes to receive points for attending events. Thus, confusion arises when you attend an event and your points don't change for several days. I am preparing to extend this window to 7 days; however, we need to remember that you won't see any point-value change until the event locks and points are distributed.  I will update the console to present you with a date when the points will be assigned to your account, to try to relieve this stress.

In addition we are updating the Point Values so that smaller groups can still claim activities, even if it's just 2 people in the case of some of the newer cooperative games.

Point Value Adjustments:

  • 2 Players (2 Less than Requirement): 25% Point Value; 10 Social Points Per Hour
  • 3 Players (1 Less than Requirement): 50% Point Value; 20 Social Points Per Hour
  • 4-9 Players (Base Requirement): 100% Point Value; 40 Social Points Per Hour
  • 10-19 Players (Bonus Tier 1): 125% Point Value; 50 Social Points Per Hour
  • 20-50 Players (Bonus Tier 2): 150% Point Value; 60 Social Points Per Hour
  • 50+ Players (Bonus Tier 3): 200% Point Value; 80 Social Points Per Hour

This change will take place sometime in September. I just gotta get through these next few weeks then I should be able to touch the site again and start working on some improvements.

The new “Survive the Storm” event has launched, and with it comes some new toys! Be sure to login and check out the new event. It's Llamatastic! Join us Fridays at 3PM PT for some Llama smacking goodness. If you're on the fence about Fortnite, be sure to check out our stream every Friday at 3PM PT at Fortnite is a cross platform (PC/PS4) cooperative survival game with lots of guns, crazy waves of husks, exploring, smashing, and giant robot teddy bears with machine guns. What's not to like?

We're still cruising along in Neverwinter on PS4, actively working on a Tier 3 Guild Hall. If you're looking to connect, send a friend request to Foghladha on PSN and I'll invite you to the guild. The guild finder system is a bit broken, so I doubt you'll be able to find us there. You can also write Conchobair@Foghladha in game and I can shoot you an invite through the mail system, too.

Orcs Must Die! Unchained

With the new claim rules it will be easier than ever to group up and earn some points for playing Orcs Must Die! Unchained. There's even a new game mode on it's way that we should see soon! Be sure to search for "GSCH Social Adventure" in the guild lineup on PS4 to join the community.

The Citadel Social Adventure crew is well on it's way to building one heck of a massive GSCH megabase in Citadel. Jairone has taken the helm of this endeavor and has been doing so marvelously. If you’re looking to play Harry Potter, The Skyrim Years, (I mean Citadel) connect with Jairone, or head over to the social adventure page.

Albion Online

We have a small group building up our guild hall in Albion Online. If you’re playing and need a guild to roll with, we are a very small group of mostly casual players. We do have a guild hall and we're actively farming to make it bigger. Eventually I'd like to show some of the PvP siege combat, but I think that will be with alliance mates as I don't know if we're going to grow big enough to wage war on our own. Gaiscioch Magazine News

Interviewapalooza 2017

So... We might have just a "few"  articles this next issue. It is shaping up to be, quite possibly, one of our largest issues to date. Between me at PAX West and Screenager at Gamescom, we should have a wealth of new articles and videos about what's coming to the video games world.  This year's conventions have been absolutely insane. I know Screenager’s schedule was packed so tight he barely had room for a bio break. My schedule is so packed I can't even see all the things I want to see during the event. There are so many great games on the way, and we're in for a real treat. Needless to say, keep an eye out for Issue 14 as it will be packed with the games you love, and the loves yet-to-be.
