How's the WvW down there

Hey all, can anyone give me an honest assessment of the state of wvw in T4. Btw, gratz for making it all the way up from T8. How are the fights during NA prime? Is it basically blobs, or are there any decent guild groups to fight? Also what are the average sizes of enemy groups?

The reason I ask is I am seriously contemplating leaving Fort Aspenwood. I left SoR last year because there was such a lack of activity, and although T2 has been a lot of fun, the recent change to stability has royally wrecked the hammer train meta. On my warrior, stability was never a problem in the past with all the stability traits available. Now I find myself turned into a furry ping pong ball 5 seconds into a fight after all my stab stacks are stripped away by the 40-man YB blob. The stab change has been unkind to melee warriors, to say the least. It makes me wonder if going to a less populated server where I face less concentrated CC is the answer. Any thoughts?

Well I can tell you in Tier 5 we're seeing less 1 v 1 and 1 v 2 opportunities out there. At this point all we find is 5vx or 40vX. In our current matchup which technically we're a Tier 6 fighting in T5 and doing remarkably well given that we are severely outnumbered population wise. When we engage them we're still able to take 2 to 1 odds and come out victorious. I suspect Tier 5 will be where we stay for a while. I will however miss Tier 6,7,8's small scale shenanigans. We're seeing less and less roamers now.

We're not Tier 4.  We're Tier 6 fighting against a pair of Tier 5 servers.  This week is just one of those rare RNG rolls of the Glicko system.  As Fog said, we're doing very well considering.  As of 10pm last night, we were only 30k down from Crystal Desert.

We're fine with Tier 6, its where we belong (for now) and wanted to be, anyway.

edit:  I hope we don't stay in Tier 5 match-ups, because it will not be good for us right now, we have the skill, just not the manning.  And if, god forbid, we accidentally wind up making the Silver League for next tournie... well, it just won't be good for us.  @ Tier 6, top of Bronze is what's best for us, if we're looking at moving forward in a positive manner.

Plenty of fights in our Tier right now druing NA prime time.  We're a bit outnumbered at times compared to IOJ and CD.  I honestly feel IOJ has a bigger NA presence than CD.  CD has more coverage all around though.  The one thing ive noticed about both of the servers we've been facing is the amount of CONDI'S they are running.  Balanced groups with shout warrior/guardians are a must now.  I agree with Fog and Sek that we are truly a T6 fighting in T5. I honestly feel 2 - 3 guilds could change that completely and we could be a serious contender for T5 and possibly T4.  We have a long road ahead of us, our groups have to start looking at their builds and their discipline moving forward.  We are still having fun out there though

Well, its a tough one.  IMO, in our current state, we outmatch any Tier 6 servers or lower.  Unfortunately, we can't compete well in Tier 5 or above, because of coverage problems.  So if we move up to Tier 5, we'll have our morale beat down and if we stay in Tier 6, we'll build great morale, but might be bored a bit more often.  We just need a more rounded coverage to move up and do as well as we'd want to.

So that's why I say that Tier 6 is where we belong, for now.  Also, speaking for myself, I'd really like to be up near the top of a tournament league for a change.  That would be a fantastic morale boost for us and a great positive for moving forward.

edit: So looking at http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups it seems that we're going to come in @ 16th this week, dropping us back into an all Tier 6 matchup w/GoM and Anvil Rock.  Hopefully we won't ping-pong with Emery Bay too much before the next tournie starts.  Actually, I wouldn't mind going up against EB just to see how we compare to them.

I'll probably come back fairly soon. After giving it some thought, I now think the stab change was a deceptive way to address server population imbalance. Now that maintaining stability against a large blob is impossible, it would not surprise me to see more fight guilds give up and move to lower tiers where they can fight similarly-sized opponents. Let's hope I have enough crap in my collection to sell and convert to gems.

Possible, though my thoughts would be that it might be more in preparation for the upcoming xpac changes, than fixing any current issues.  I mean, its possible that they want to try and spread population out, but I still maintain my previous prediction that this is the last year of server-based WvWvW, for several reasons.  Its just the next step in the evolution of their migration to mega-server technology.

WvW in megaserver is the way to go. It will annoy some gold leaguers but be better in the long term.

We already have a wvw megaserver -its called Edges of the Mist. A great big karma train without any alliegences. It has its uses, but mostly it just detracts players from the real wvw and has taken away coverage we might have had. I don't think that will work anywhere else.

As for myself, I will fight for our family on this server, not a big blog of color each week. I am hoping that tthe new wvw maps will entice people back out to the real wvw areas. If not, we will soldier on without them.

Like all great travellers, I have seen more than I remember, and remember more than I have seen.

I didn't say I wanted it, I said that I'm sticking to my previous prediction that it's coming.  The lag issues we're seeing in WvW, indicates that the current configuration/design is not stable and reinforces my feeling that a migration to new technology will be coming sooner than later.  How they will, or if they will, handle server identity is not something I can speculate on.

I'm gonna give it another couple weeks. Seems like we have adapted to stab change somewhat. The one positive change I do see is rangers are viable again. Love picking off immobilized guards with my LB. Pew pew!

On the subject of megaservers, I see the migration inevitable, but I would love to see a system that lets players choose what kind of wvw environment they want to play in. Biggest irritation in T2 is FA is primarily fight guilds that look for open field battles. Our opponents just wanna ppt. I don't know how many times we have wasted an hour knocking down walls and destroying siege in Bay only to find a numerically superior force waiting inside. They won't come out and fight when they could have wiped us before we even dropped rams. They just cower behind walls and fight in the lord's room when they don't have a choice. If I had the power I would make a megaserver or group of servers to be "fights only" for wvw purposes. Siege would be extremely limited. Ideally one would not have to actually drop siege, but rather build at designated points (like cannons) and the total amount of individual seige engines would be set at X per a tower or X + 2 for a keep.
