Greetings Everyone,
Last night I received a member join request stating that he saw our recruitment message in /map chat about needing off hours players. I realized that I have not addressed this publicly for our Guild Wars 2 community so I figure now is as good as time as any to bring our newest members up to speed with who we are, what we do, and how we recruit.
Gaiscioch does not blanket chat channel with join requests.
Chat spams are highly annoying to a lot of players and speak of promises. Our family is built on action, not words. We do not recruit people in public channels. We do not approach people to join our family. Please refrain from doing such things. It tends to give us a bad name, makes people think we're a spam invite guild, and lowers our integrity.
Gaiscioch Recruits Through Action And Curiosity
The reason we focus on making our events public is a 2 fold approach. A: To tie ourselves into the server community and ensure that the place we call home endures as long as we do. B: To expose our membership lifestyle to those in the community so that they may see what we do, experience what we do, and enjoy what we do before ever becoming a member. A lot of our membership actually fought against us in DAOC or WAR or RIFT. This is because they see what we do and want to be a part of it. Words are a dime a dozen at walmart, Actions however are a rare commodity. If a person wants to join us they will ask to join us. Not because we claim to be something but because we are something.
Doing Your Part
So in the past you were a recruiter for your previous guild and you'd like to do the same here. Well if you want to help bring people into the family then you need to be well versed in our ways and then take our ways and live them out through the games we play. Give when there is nothing to gain, Help those in need, Practice random acts of kindness, and the entire time you do so DONT push the family name on them. Just smile and welcome them. Kindness goes a long way. They will grow curious and curiosity is what leads them to know and understand who we are, what we do, and how they can be a part of it.
Remember
The Troll dies when they stop playing, the kind hearted live on through all of us. Look at Errorist. For years that man made a point to try to ruin our server community on Badlands. But the more he tried, the more our lifestyle shined through. In all the Errorist did to destroy us and the Badlands server community in the end it was our kindness that made that server the last server standing. In addition how many of you Warhammer players forgot all about "That Guy". Heck Don & I had to look up who he was in our admin logs to figure out his name just so I could mention this.
In the same regard look at Roger. He went out of his way for people, made them feel wanted and important. Gave without reward, cared when others cared not, and helped those who were helpless. Today he has a server and an NPC named after him. He lives on through all of us.
Do you want to be remembered as a wart on the backside of society, or as a hero that changed the lives of those around you and be remembered through your actions and compassion. Be kind, be helpful and in turn good things will be drawn toward you. Kindness and Compassion are our biggest recruitment tools. Use them well!
