Looking for something new and exciting to feed the four-legged members of your family?  These are really easy to make and the two-legged members of your family are sure to love them too.

Peanut Butter Pumpkin Puppy Treats

1/2 cup natural peanut butter (no added sugar or salt)

1 cup pumpkin puree (not the pumpkin pie filling, just the pumpkin)

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In mixing bowl combine peanut butter and pumpkin until evenly mixed. Next add cinnamon and flour until all ingredients are fully incorporated (easiest to use your hands for this step).  Dough should not be sticky, if it is add a touch more flour.

Roll out dough with a rolling pin to about 1/3 inch thick.  I take a pizza cutter, but knife works too, and cut rows and columns to make small squares.  Place squares on cookie sheet and bake for 8 - 9 minutes.

I like to store them in the freezer in a baggie - that way you can warm what you need in the microwave.  Will keep in refrigerator for 5 days.

WOOF!

This is very similar to the ones I make for our dogs, actually I think it's the base of what I had originally started with before modifying for our. One of ours has tons of food allergies & sensitivities and has passed that along to a couple of his kids...lol

Mine include:

Natural Peanut butter (no salt or additives)

Pumpkin (canned with no additives)

Eggs

Oatmeal

Personally I use:

29 ounce size can of Pumpkin

40 ounce jar Peanut Butter

Dozen Eggs

42 ounce box of Oatmeal (the tallest round one)

The only flour I use is a touch on my countertop when I roll out the cookie dough to keep it from sticking.

Mix the Peanut Butter & Pumpkin well into a puree, add eggs and blend well. Slowly mix in the whole box of oatmeal and mix well.  Once mixed, let set for an hour, mix, set for another hour, mix. The oatmeal should be soft by now. The key is to allow the oatmeal to absorb the liquid and become soft. One soft, it should be kind of stiff. Break off a ball, roll out like pie dough, cut into favor shape.

I use parchment paper on my baking sheets, but not necessary.

Bake at 425 for 10-11 minutes, flip and bake for an additional 10-11 minutes.

Take out of oven, flip cookies and then place tray on cooling rack. Allow to cool until tray is cool to touch then transfer cookies to cooling racks directly and allow to cool for an additional hour or so.

I know seems like a lot of work but hey, all our kids are grown & on their own so our dogs are our babies now...lol

I don't use cinnamon because while in moderation it's not toxic, too much can cause liver damage among other things.

I don't use flour(white or wheat) in the actual cookies because, well, he's allergic to it...lol.

The reason behind the double baking of each tray is to help crisp up the cookie a bit so it's not quite as soft and they seem to like it better when they have to break off a bite and chew...lol

I have Chihuahua's so I make cookies that are about 2 to 2 1/2 inches in diameter so you would have to adjust your size to your preference. Since mine only get them once a day as a special nighttime treat, I store them in a ziplock in the refrigerator.

And they go absolutely nuts for these, some of our friends have tried this recipe and their dogs react the same way...lol

*hugs*
