Greetings Everyone,

I wanted to take a moment and share some information with all of you. I would prefer Rumor not circulate about what's going on and I'd like to stick to the facts. Rumors have a tendency to snowball and go way too extreme. Before you lash out and make quick judgement I do ask that you read all of the below.

Gaiscioch Policy

Typically we close chapters when they reach 250 active members. Being a casual community 250 people results in between 15-30 people logged in during primetime and 1-5 off peak. This makes it very tough for us to pull off the epic community events that help our family grow. It also is the pain threshold where a lot of people complain about not having anything going on. Things typically degrade from here and things get ugly quick. The key is for us to pull the plug before things go really bad and people start building resentment for our family. Usually by 250 people, that has already started to show it's ugly head. People begin to feel abandoned, the begin to feel slighted, they begin to point fingers. While this may not be the case, it's how people feel and that makes it real. We want to avoid this at all costs or at least prevent it to some extent. It is better to cut ties in hopes of future reunion that let it implode and let any future reunion be impossible. While this sucks and it's by far my least favorite thing to do, I have had to close 3 chapters, and 3 times I tried different tactics. Warhammer was the only one that kept most of our people together even after the closure. A lot of those people still play with us today. Those that played RIFT when we turned it into a Saighdear likely will never play with us again. Those in Dark Ages where I passed off the torch to someone else, I have only seen 2 people from the original family resurface in all my time running this. The rest remember the epic crapstorm that followed my departure and want nothing to do with us. The point is that if I can salvage a possible future for those in the family, I will. I do not like closing chapters and I really do not like disappointing people. But if I can't keep people playing a game, there's is nothing I can do to keep things from going downhill quick. Resentment and Animosity take over and we lose everything.

For more about our Retirement policy see:
http://www.gaiscioch.com/about/policy.html

Situation

The Elder Scrolls Chapter is under the 250 mark. I have not closed it yet, because A: I believe ZeniMax Online wants to fix their game, and B: There is so much love in those that do play even still that I don't want to take it away from them just yet. So far we have avoided most of the issues that we typically see when we drop below the 250 mark. I think that largely has to do with ESO being a solo focused and small group focused game. However anyone that tries to organize AVA knows the pain. I plan to keep the ESO Chapter open until I can find a suitable replacement with more people willing to play than ESO. If ZeniMax Online does resolve the issues preventing our growth (Nameplates, Godmode AvA, PvE World Bosses) then we will grow out of the 250 mark and start growing for the first time in our ESO history.

That said, since a month before launch our ESO chapter hasn't grown at all. We have lost more than we regain every single month. If we can get 1 month where that scale turns upward rather than downward it would be a huge momentum changer. With 1.6 coming in January i'm hoping that a few of my recommended changes will be implemented along with it. It's my hopes that this will rekindle people's interest and we'll grow back over that 250 mark. 1.7 will also likely bring more people back.

That said, as long as I see the people who are playing ESO happy and content I will keep it open. If I start seeing the decline and animosity starts rearing it's head I will have to pull the plug before too much damage is done. I don't want to do this, I hate doing this, and I really want ESO to survive. But we need a little good faith by Zenimax, and the cooperation and assistance of those still playing to pull this off.

Changes in 2015

Vaults/Stores: We will be consolidating the 2 storefront rooms into our main room. Please feel free to loot anything you want out of the Armory vault. We will be migrating the Materials vault to both Gaiscioch and Armory. During the new year we will close down Gaiscioch Materials and Gaiscioch Armory and focus our attention on getting the storefront for Gaiscioch. So please take what you can use from Armory.

Additionally. Please do not store Style Materials in our vaults. We can't do anything with them and literally have to spend hours on end deleting them. Feel free to fill work orders for them when they appear but do not store them in the vaults. Thanks!

Family Events: In the new year I'm going to be taking my weekly event to play with some of the new systems. At first I will run some thieving events while the Justice system is thieves only so that we can figure out the mechanics. Once the enforcers patch comes in we will be running enforce events as well most likely rotating each week. Once the Imperial City comes out I plan to run events there as often as possible.

What Can You Do?

Communicate. The most important thing we can do right now is be there for one another. If someone needs help on a quest or has a question answer them in a friendly helpful way. We need to shine more than ever as a Family. We need to invite others to join us in what we do, help total strangers, and do what we can to be seen. It's absolutely critical that we do our best to keep the people who are playing, playing and work towards finding new kindred spirits to join our family. We need to be there for one another and realize that what has happened is not your fault, it's not our fault. This is the first game we have ever encountered that is built from the ground up as an anti-Gaiscioch game. There is no avenue for us to entertain a large audience, and no way that people know who are we are. The gameplay forces small scale activities outside of AvA, and AvA has major issues detouring our people from playing it at all. Until these issues can be resolved we can only do our best to survive and endure.

My Apology

In the future I will do a better job of assessing the situation before we commit. With our new seed system planned I hope we can avoid this in the future. It is my fault for bringing us here after they removed so many critical systems we needed to survive. I guess in the end I had too much faith that they would return sooner rather than not at all. It was a bad call on my part and for that I apologize. I can only learn from these mistakes and move forward with a better plan.

I do feel I let you all down. I took you to a place where our very way of life can't be fulfilled. Nothing I have tried has helped save us from where we are now. Believe me I have tried. I really wanted this game to be a success and wanted our family to have a important part of it, yet in the end I just couldn't sway them enough. To show you just how far I went I am going to allow all of you to see the document I took to ZeniMax Online Studios this past October.

Elder Scrolls Online: Suggestions & Improvements - By Benjamin "Foghladha" Foley

Some of these changes have already been seen making appearances and others should arrive in 1.6 and 1.7. I took 2 weeks of vacation time from my full time job, to travel 3,000 miles and spend the week in meetings with Zenimax in hopes that we could resolve these issues. I am praying for a miracle out of Zenimax right now, a chance at redemption. I just really hope that my words stuck with them and it's not too late.

I have tried, and tried, and at this point I feel I have failed to make any difference. I am sorry that I've let you all down and I swear to you I will learn from this and better plan for the future. I love you guys and absolutely hate that I've let you down. I hope that all of you can find it in your heart to forgive me and hope that you will not hold this against the family in the future. I really hope that we can share future adventures together.

In Closing

Our ESO chapter is down, but not out. We still have some fight to give and we will continue to try our best to get it growing again. As long as we avoid the hatred and resentment that come with a struggling chapter I will continue to keep this chapter open until either ESO recovers or we find a new suitable home for chapter 6. I'm not ready to give up on ESO but I will not let our family go the path of RIFT or DAOC. I won't stand by while the family eats itself. I hope that you all will stand by me and do your best to be a shining light in Tamriel and hopefully with a little hard work and perseverance we can save this.

I'm not out, I just had an attack of family busyness (my son is applying to college--holy cow!!). I also got burned out on MMO gaming after about 7 years. I detoured to some Dragon Age, Pokemon, reading, genealogy and working on a novel. However, the gaming bug is catching me again.... :D

As for making mistakes, hindsight is always 20/20, and you can only make decisions based on the best information you had at that moment. :) Don't beat yourself up over it. The family is still family, no matter where we are. :)

Thanks for re-clarifying your stance and the reasons for it. What i can add is that you are right in that we are down to a "core" group that truly do enjoy the game. For those of us left we accept things as they are and have no issue going solo or duo in any form of game content. Those people that are now leading generally have been doing so with no expectation of being a major "impact" on the game or environment but to give our members as much of an enjoyable experience as we can. We change our tactics accordingly to our numbers and the current arena we find ourselves in. The scheduled events sometimes suffer for turnout and i see that more to do with our limited numbers versus life and the holidays, not a lack of joy in the game or each others company. Most of our activities now occur because we communicate and someone steps up and starts the requested group, raid, etc.

(work interrupted cont'd)

I do not see any kind of the "getting ugly" things at all. What I have seen is that those left are becoming a much tighter group than ever before. When we had the horde ingame it was easy to be lost in the mass communications happening extremely fast without knowing the others or being previously known. As well, unless you are a very outgoing person, it was hard to break into the existing "cliques" leftover from previous games that seem to always form into the smaller groups. One of the major reasons for this is likely the fact that the game itself is and feels so much like a "solo" endeavor and grouping becomes more for social reasons. I do hope that many more come back and am in no way knocking the large participation as that was one of the reasons I joined.

Wow Fog, I read through your suggestions and if they start implementing those they will have an amazing game.

ESO does so many things great and I see a lot of potential in it. I think it could really become a wonderful game.

Just an observation, but the stamina for games has been declining for several years. I have some experience with large organizational guilds and in my experience, each new title builds momentum pre-launch via websites, media trailers and screen shots) and beta testing. As a result of a mad craving to devour content coupled with familiarity and high expectations, games run their coarse quicker and quicker.

The titles that brought many of us into online MMO's had something today's titles do not. New and unseen systems, characters and ways to become immersed in the game itself. You lost track of time, because you were captured by the magic of your imagination and focused on defeating the challenges that spawned in front of you. Now everyone has kinda been there and done that.

Also, it bears mentioning that those titles that grabbed us were pretty much the only game in town, having a lot less competition to divide up the market share of gamers. WoW, DAoC, EQ...they stood unchallenged by serious competition and all offered a uniqueness that people identified with. Today's market is splattered with games, half finished, over marketed and under funded.

Fog, don't view this as your fault. It's literally just a by-product of today's gaming landscape.

First off Fog this is not in anyway your fault. Unless your writing the checks for Zin employees then it's not your fault.

Anyone who has hung out with the guild longer then a year knows your heart and knows you work darn hard to make this guild what it is.  Your faith in all of use propels us to places I never witness  in a large guild.

Thank you for all your hard work and to all the others who are working hard to pick up some slack.

I've notice lately that people are starting to chat more in chat and there is hardly ever a time when someone asks for help that someone else doesn't jump on it and help out.

The way this game is made there is no way to show who we are without shouting it from the roof tops.

The other day I spent sometime helping a person out and giving them stuff and he asked me why I was doing it. I responded with that's what our guild does and we love having more.  If your interested...............  he  was pleased and said he would look us up after I gave him the guild website..    I've done this a few times.  I wished we could give out bags again.

I love love love your ideas.  I wished they would listen and implement then  keeping fingers cross they not only hear you but apply your ideas.

keeping an eye open :)

I love the game and really hope the new updates changes and fixes the issues, and FOG, you did not do anything wrong. Companies need to start putting action into place instead of running their mouths about what is going to happen and what really happens.  Hoping the new patch will bring folks back to the game.

I will agree that the core crew left has become a lot closer and we have gotten a few new people that have found their home here and keep sticking with us.  There is a lot going on considering how small we are, but we actually have a decent amount of people that aren't prime time US so that the afternoons most days have quite a few people around.  There hasn't even been any issues where I had to step in as an elder to defuse things in months!  I hate having to pull out Mama Bear and then have people griping at me for doing so.  ::chuckles::

I'm waiting to see what happens.  I know 1.6 does not even get onto the PTS until like the Monday after New Year's and personally I am hoping they give it a few weeks of testing.  I also hope enough people actually get on PTS to give them feedback and bug reports on it so they can see what is really going on.

I know I spend quite a bit of time roleplaying now in the game.  There is quite the RP community out there and I enjoy doing things with them.  It's something I could not seem to find as easily in Rift and GW2, though I was running a couple RP guilds in Warhammer on the Order side that were also part of the Tuatha with Gaisgioch.

And this leads me to this next point.  People are still out there looking for Pve/PvP guilds, but they seem to find the RP and trade guilds the easiest.  Why?  Because right now the only way to really recruit in this game is to throw out an ad into zone chat to see who bites and then interview them to see what they really want after they bite.  The problem is the only way to fish directly in game right now is with zone ads, but then there is the fun of cleaning the fish as it were to make sure they will fit in.  This game definitely does not lead itself to brand advertising the Gaisgioch way.

I'll be sticking it out to see what the future has in store.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I am new to the family and only have time and money to spend on one MMO, that game is ESO at the moment , but since joining the family i have been welcomed, encouraged and had friendly fun poked at me.  This is just what i was looking for in a guild, no pressure or elitism, and a helping hand that also can take a few ideas that i have and show me how to get on with it.  There are a core of players that i look forward to playing with and am glad to see that even unfamiliar players have the same values.  If worse comes to worse then i hope the friends i have made will still play under the umbrella of the family even if it does not earn them guild advancement.

The friends we make and the enjoyment we take from a game is what is important.

I just wanted to say I don't have a huge amount of time to commit to this guild or the game, though I am on 3 to 4 days a week for anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours, but this is certainly the most positive guild experience I have ever had. I think that is likely because of Fog and the way he has set things up.  I hope things improve from here and I look forward to playing with those I've adventured with in the past. Really, I'd thank Fog for the great website and bared blade rules that make it fun to run with GSCH. Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays, guildies.

I'm with Bleeargh. My first game here, and while I haven't been on much or often of late, it has been a really positive experience. The only difficult part, from my perspective, was that the guild membership cap was set too low for our initial needs, which made it feel like I wasn't getting a chance to know a lot of folks.

Thank you so much for posting Fog.  Like Cam and Deacon have alluded, I believe this chapter of Gaiscioch has grown into a group of like minded people who also view this game in very similar ways.   What I mean is, we are a group that are okay with smaller sized events, soloing in our questing vs grouping, etc and so on; but also enjoy chit chatting with our peers in game when we are soloing.  Honestly, if the guild were to close tomorrow, I doubt that you would alienate the majority of us in anyway what so ever or would the closure cause us to not to join up with Gais in later chapters.

Personally, I totally get that ESO at this point may not fit in your vision regarding the guild and absolutely respect that.  You have created a brand that has certain needs to go forward in any game.  But like you, I am hopeful that might change with the upcoming updates.

Is there any plans to update the website areas we use. The marketplace is missing ability to request the newer traits with fair value. The leadership/participation area is missing the newer vet dungeons and alot of bosses in the dungeons that exist after the size increase/changes to delves. no ability to request recipes. Im sure there are other things that need updating as well.

With no updates to these areas to make them current, if feels like the towel has been thrown in on this game. I dont get to play as much as I like, and im not a big PVP player, but i do alot of crafting, and i would like to run more small groups. frustrating when you cant add everything that exists on a run.

Fog,

The new trait for both armor and weapons is "Nirnhorned".  The mat to make it is very rare, can be purchased for 7-16k gold.

Recipes could be requested by Provisioning skill level and effect, rather than specific recipe (there are too many and it will change in 1.6), eg. level 5 purple food, or level 3 blue magica and health regen drink.  Blue 'Discovery' menu would have two dropdowns with magicka, stamina, and health listed.  In-game cost of blue recipes is inverse, level 6 go for 27-150 gold, level 1-2 go for 300-2500 gold.  Purple recipe costs are also inverted, level 5-6 food around 5k gold, level 3 around 25k gold, drink recipes are less expensive.

Craglorn Dungeon Bosses, and expanded Dungeon Bosses will require more research for me to list out, if anyone has that info please post it.

Also, anyone should feel free to "modify" the above information as I am not the font of all knowledge....if you know something I do not, please share.

Maybe we should start a new thread to compile things for what is missing on the marketplace.  One where we seriously pull the info - stats, color, name, cost, etc so Fog can figure out how to put it in the database.  From there we can work on compiling decent lists at intervals of info gathering for Fog to use, which are as clean and concise as possible to try to help him plug things in correctly.  The more we compile and the cleaner we make it for him the easier it will be.  He definitely doesn't have a lot of time in the world and sometimes he just needs to play the games, too.  =)

Anyway, I'll start a new thread called ESO Marketplace Updates for that so that it is in it's own thread and does not hijack this one.

As for the vault stuff.  I just cleared out a mess of style and trait stuff that was cramming the main Gaiscioch bank.  Left stones for a couple of the rarer things, but for the most part took both out since we keep having overkill on both Style and trait.  Neither can be sold for anything so they just need to be wiped out for space.  So there is close to 150 slots open atm on Gaiscioch bank.

I think for style and trait stones we definitely don't put these in bank and if we have too many ask if people need any and then ditch them ourselves.  Much of the time they are winding up in the bank because people just don't like throwing things away, but already have enough horded for both style and trait.  I know I keep a full stack of each in my personal bank and random sized single stacks in the crafter's bag.

First off, Merry Christmas everyone!  I've spent a little over a year with all of you now, and there are many of you I consider friends, not just gaming buddies.

To Fog: You are an amazing man, incredible entrepreneur, and a visionary.  However, you are not a fortune teller and are in no way to responsible for any rise or decline of the chapter's population.  As Deacon pointed out, the market is player-driven, and the face of the current MMO player is that of an ADHD gamer, who needs a quick fix for content, easy kills, and the desire to own everyone.  ESO is the very opposite of this kind of game.

As the others have pointed out, there is a core group of us who are tighter than ever.  Many of us know what presents were being given to children and grandchildren for Christmas and what everyone's making for dinner.  We are, indeed, tighter than ever.  These are also the people that are leading events---and scheduled or unscheduled, there is something going on every day.

Our core group will likely stick together no matter what happens and will be the ones who help the family grow.

I want to welcome all our recently added new members and say that I love gaming with you all.

Thanks for the clarification Fog.  Even with some of the frustrating elements, I enjoy the game and our guild community.  Also, you have some great suggestions there and hopefully ZoS takes note, but right know, I feel they need to focus on improving current game systems and polish what they have.  Some of your suggestions would seem fairly "easy" to implement though.

PS- On a side note, Deacon leads some fantastic groups in AvA.  He's a great tactician and promotes the guild well.  In a few of the times I've been able to make it, we have met some cool people who have been directed to the guild website.  :)

Thanks for the update Fog! As always just the fact to took the time to make such detailed post about where we stand shows your leadership skills and that you truly care about the members of this FAMILY.  This family has been a refuge for me through some really rough times as you know.   I will continue to lead events on Tues, Thurs, & Sun as long as people show interest.  I know the group of people who are have diminished quite a bit but those who do attend I try to make sure they enjoy the event.   Some nights are successful, some.. not so much and those are the nights I start doubting my ability to lead effectively.  I'm doing my best to be a good leader and represent your brand with pride and honor.  If others would rather lead I will be happy to assist them in anyway I can, in the mean time I will do what I do with who wants to do it.

@pyre, I think you do a great job leading AvA groups, though I think I have only been able to join one, due to my schedule. I can speak for others and say that we all appreciate your hard work and commitment to making the AvA group runs work!

Also, to any leadership that reads this, I saw a thread on reddit to promote the guild:

i feel like by the 1 year anniversary in april 2015 this game will come a long way, im thinking back to a lot of issues people had being addressed in update 5 and there were books worth of pages of fixes in that update.  While champion and justice will be the focus of update 6 i won't be surprised to find many many more fixes coming in that patch as well.  that being said, fog, you went to visit them so you probably have a better grasp on the directions of things, but I do have high hopes that this game will mature at around the 1 year mark, by then the champion and justice systems should be fully implemented and I've heard of a LOT of changes that will really stabilize the way the game is played.  just my two cents :D

Thanks Fog,  I will try to do research on what is missing from dungeon bosses. The dwarven style is also new in addityion to the nirnhoned trait. keep in mind both are much more costly to make than the standard traits and styles.
