I suggest asking in zone chat. That's what I did on the AD side and was directed to one of the public dungeons.
Seek out those weird dog-shaped lizards named Durzogs, those drops nice amount of hide. And Kagoutis! Those guar with a mean attitude.
I found medium armor to be a real tough grind. Once you find a spot with lots of critters you have to go back and make sure your alts go back and gather as much as you can. I won't save lower level metals, wood, and thread, but you can bet I am gonna keep all my medium mats for when I bring up the next crew of alts.

I wonder if the leather availability was a deliberate choice by Zenimax?
Since there aren't leather plants; I guess its logical that you need to kill critters to get your leather. But I think they should even the field and make the blacksmith's fight their iron ore before mining it. (Sorry, must be lack of sleep)
