This is a wonderful book written by Guy Gavriel Kay, who had the honour to work with Christopher Tolkien on the Silmarillion who went on to become an accomplished author in his own right.  I enjoy many of his works as they are fantasy with very interesting parallels to our own medieval times.

The Last Light of the Sun has a very strong celtic theme to it as well as familiarity with our own roots.  I read this some years ago, not too long after it came out.

I read his book Tigana several years ago, and it was quite good. I look forward to tracking down The Last Light of the Sun. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Tigana was the first I read of his, also :)   I ended up reading A Song for Arbonne, then the Fionavar Tapestry trilogy which didn't thrill me but it was his first work.  I read The Lions of Al-Rassan followed by the Sarantine Mosiac duology which I really enjoyed and they shared the same "world", and The Last Light of the Sun fell into the same "world".  I have since read Under Heaven, which was excellent, and possibly in the same "world" but nothing conclusive.  He has another in the works which will be a follow-on novel for Under Heaven called River of Stars, set about 350 to 400 years after the events covered in Under Heaven.

I really like the those novels with same-world connections but are not so connected that they can't stand alone.

I thought I had read all of his works.  But, I haven't seen "Last Light of the Sun".  I'll look for it.

The Lions of Al-Rassan was a great book.

Parke Godwin is another good author for historical novels.  His Firelord (Arthurian) and Sherwood (Robin Hood) books were really nice.  Both were a different interpretation of the standard myth also.  Quite enjoyable.

Guy Gavriel Kay is my favorite author. Starting to read Under Heaven.

The 3 part series of the Fionavar Tapestry is what I like to read over and over again.

Go Canada.
