Victory, At Last!

By: Asharei

Darkshade has been the bane of our Undaunted record from day one - the Hive Lord offering a DPS and Magicka check right off the bat, Grobull requiring serious crowd control to handle the multiple adds and aoe, and of course the Engine Guardian, which is a challenge of communication from beginning to end. We have run this dungeon a few times but have only defeated the Engine Guardian once and that had been on a run scaled to VR1. We only took home a silver key that night, and I as the squishy healer was the last one alive, soloing the boss for the last 10k of his life while the dead bodies of our tank and dps cheered me on.

Sporting a YOLO attitude that gets us in far too much trouble, we jumped in with both feet, last night and scaling the dungeon to VR12.

With the Engine Guardian being one of the few fights in which a tank is not needed, and having previously learned our lesson, we all had the chance to pull out our DPS off hands. Jjrdragon gathered and tanked the adds during the lightening white phase with DPS (and sometimes healing) calling location on the elusive 3rd add before drawing it to the tank. So long as we didn’t get back to back white phases, the combined DPS of the party made fairly short work of the adds, allowing for healer magicka regen for the green phase that usually followed. During green phase, our sometimes spread out party regrouped immediately and unerringly to the middle for Purify and a well timed Remembrance to push through the worst of the poison damage while still being able to DPS the Guardian and any adds that may still have been up. During red phase, our group spread out, dodging red circles of death and periodic flame throwers while Paleus and CrazyRoyal battled to out DPS each other.

It took us a few tries to find our rhythm, but 30 minutes after we started attempting the Engine Guardian, communication once again prevailed, allowing for the overlap of certain roles for magicka regen, ressing, temporary off tanking and in the end the reward of a beautiful Gold Key.
